Have you heard of the spoon analogy for chronic illnesses?

It's the idea that you start each day with a certain number of spoons that represent the amount of energy you have for tasks that day. People with MS or another chronic illness have fewer spoons or energy.

The number of spoons you have, or how many spoons your daily living requires, can change from day to day. It’s important to monitor your energy level and know when your spoons are nearly out so you don't exhaust yourself before the end of the day.⁠

Saying you’re running out of spoons can be a simplified way to communicate to others that you are struggling with energy or symptoms.

Have you ever used the spoon analogy in your care plan? Is it something you’d consider trying?
