Today is a FULL-CIRCLE moment! 💙

The Mace Anthony Williamson Foundation is headed from St. Petersburg to Orlando to support Empower Black Doulas at its third annual Community Baby Shower!

Its founder, Keshia Lockett, was the very first doula I connected with when I began this journey in 2021. Five years later, God has brought us back together through motherhood, doula care, community, and purpose.

This is our foundation’s first Orlando event, and we’re coming with baby-supply bags, games, a raffle, resources, and information for families interested in receiving doula support.

We are SO excited to officially welcome Texas Roadhouse as an In-Kind Sponsor of The Mace Anthony Williamson Foundation’s 5th Annual Walk to Remember! 💙

And this is exactly what community partnership looks like.

Today begins Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month.

For The Mace Anthony Williamson Foundation, this month isn’t simply an awareness campaign.

We were born from loss.

Before there was a Foundation, a Doula Project, a Walk to Remember, advocacy, programs, partnerships, trainings or families being served—

there was Mace.

Mace Anthony Williamson was born September 20, 2017.

And on October 3, his mother experienced the unimaginable: leaving this world without the baby she had just brought into it.

Everything we have built since carries his name, his life and the love that did not disappear when he died.

That’s why this month matters to us.

Pregnancy and infant loss is not simply a statistic. It is a mother who remembers exactly what her baby smelled like. A father who still wonders who his child would have become. A sibling missing someone they may never have gotten the chance to know. A due date. A birthday. A hospital room. A name.

And sometimes, years later, it is a family still learning how to carry both grief and life at the same time.

This month, we’re making room for all of it.

For the babies.

And for the people who carry them.

We will say their names.
We will tell their stories.
We will support their families.
We will advocate for mothers and babies.
And we will never ask grief to disappear just because time has passed.

In 16 days, we will gather for our 5th Annual Walk to Remember—the very space created from one mother’s decision that her son’s life would continue to mean something.

A 2025 study published in AJOG adds powerful, up-to-date data showing associations between doula care and improved maternal and newborn outcomes.

Key Maternal Outcomes:

More vaginal births after cesarean (VBAC): For every 100 patients who received doula care, there were 15 to 34 additional VBACs compared with those without doula care.

Higher postpartum follow-up attendance: 5 to 6 more per 100 received postpartum office visits.

Key Neonatal / Infant Outcomes

Increased exclusive breastfeeding rates: Babies whose families had doula support were more likely to breastfeed exclusively.

Fewer preterm births (and early preterm births): Doula-supported births showed a reduction in preterm birth rates.

In short, the study links doula care with improvements in birth outcomes — across birth mode (more VBACs), infant health (less prematurity), and early infant care (breastfeeding, postpartum follow-up).
