Jesus wants to use us to destroy Satan's works.
1 John 3:8 declares: “The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the works of the devil” (ESV).
You see, Satan’s mission is to destroy everything in his path. As John 10:10 declares: “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy.”
Satan never comes to set things right.
He never comes to save, restore, heal, or deliver; He only comes to taint our lives with sin, sickness, separation from God, selfishness, and demonic oppression.
His final goal is to drag every life to suffer forever with him in the flames of Hell.
But God’s mission is the exact opposite. As Jesus said, “I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full” (John 10:10)!
When Jesus came to Earth, He set sinners free, healed “every disease and sickness” (Matthew 4:23), and delivered the demonized (Mark 1:39).
Isaiah had prophesied He would walk in an anointing that would destroy all of Satan’s works:
“The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on Me, because the Lord has anointed Me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent Me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor and the day of vengeance of our God, to comfort all who mourn, and provide for those who grieve in Zion—to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair.” (Isaiah 61:1-3)
Yes, Jesus has the authority and longing to set every captive free!
And He has given us the same authority by His Spirit.
In Luke 10:19, He said, “I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy!”
Now, God wants to use us to destroy the works of Satan, as Paul declared: “The God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet!” (Romans 16:20).
As we invade with light, we must make this our objective.
✝️ When we see the lost, we must preach the gospel of salvation.
✝️ When we see backslidden Christians, we must declare God’s call to repentance and restoration.
✝️ When we see broken relationships, we must declare Jesus’s call to love and forgiveness.
✝️ When we see the sick, we must reach out in Jesus’s love and pray for healing.
✝️ And when we see the demon-oppressed, we must seek to set the captives free.
This is our calling—our divine privilege! The Kingdom of God has enlisted us to destroy the works of the devil.
Let us then heed the words of the famous hymn:
Onward, Christian soldiers, marching as to war,
With the cross of Jesus going on before!
At the sign of triumph Satan’s host doth flee;
On, then, Christian soldiers, on to victory!
