Our annual ceremony in recognition of POW/MIA Day was held at the Veterans Memorial Walk in O'Fallon Friday night, September 18th. It was well attended even though it was very warm and humid. Our VVA members, Boy Scouts of America Troop 72, and Amvets Post 106 did a great job of setting up and conducting the ceremony. Our guest speaker, U.S. Army LTC Joseph Smith from the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency, spoke on the progress being made to recover and identify as many remains of our military as possible. Patriotic music was provided by Scott Owen and the Veritas Christian Academy. O'Fallon mayor, Bill Hennessy gave a heartfelt message. A beautiful, delicious cake was provided by Anna's Dream Cakes of O'Fallon. It is always a privilege to be able to remember and honor those who have never, or as yet, not come home. Also, we remembered how our late VVA member, Butch Whitworth, who devoted so much time and energy to always make this a special event, and we all miss him and so appreciated his efforts!
