Lutheran High School of St. Charles County PLTW - Project Lead The Way engineering classes are off to a great start for the new school year. Introduction to Engineering Design and Digital Electronics presented hands-on immersive activities on Day-1!
For the IED students, Day #1 of the year started with a "Rainforest Shelter Challenge" a timed, in-class, small group project that required them to design and build a "rain shelter" using only the materials available -- 2 pounds of newspaper, 1 roll of masking tape, and 1 pair of scissors. The project requirements:
1) The shelter must be "free standing"
2) The shelter must cover all team members (3-4 students per team)
3) The shelter must be designed and built in 40 minutes or less
4) Photo log must record/capture milestones during the project
Our Digital Electronics students were given roles to perform as "Human Electronics Components" and interact with each other to simulate a motion sensor timing circuit for a room light. WOW!
This is just a sample of the immersive, hands-on learning available in the Lutheran High School of St. Charles County STEM and Engineering classes!
