Learn about challenges and successes for peacebuilding on the ground in Colombia, a country that has known decades of violence from guerrillas, paramilitaries, and narco-traffickers. The J-Term IEX Course, Community Peacebuilding, will bring Gusties to Colombia where they will learn about the history of violence in Colombia, the national Peace Accords and their implementation, and the struggle to build local cultures of peace in Colombia and to deal with the trauma of past violence. Some of the highlights of this trip include working directly with community partners in Medellin to gain in-depth knowledge of peace work on the ground, a once in a lifetime opportunity to be guests of an indigenous community known by our host organization - Peace and Hope and Memoria Indigena, experiencing the unique beauty of Colombia in mountains, coast, and Tayrona National Park and earning a January credit and fulfilling the Challenge Seminar requirement, as well as PJCS and LALACS credit.
