Southern Minnesota Skating Club SMSC offers programming in Mankato, St. Peter, and LeSueur MN, for new and experienced skaters of all interests including hockey and figure skaters.

SMSC is proud to recognize our Learn to Skate friends who participated in our first ever competition event, “Flight of the Eagle.” Competing requires a commitment to training, courage to show up and show off, and a tenacious attitude, and these skaters had it all. 🤩 This in house event was followed by a theatrical exhibition as participants from our spring Theatre class, taught by Cameron Claire, brought the movement of the ocean to the ice. 🩵❄️

⭐️SENIOR SPOTLIGHT⭐️
Cecelia’s favorite thing about skating is the freeing experience she has while exploring the ice. She has enjoyed competing on the USFS National Showcase stage, performing as Maria for Southern Minnesota Skating Club’s Nutcracker On Ice, and competing in the Battle of the Blades event, along with participating in countless ice shows and competitions with friends made along the way.

Cecelia’s advice to all skaters is to not be intimidated by the progress of someone else, “everyone grows at different times and not everyone’s progress looks the same, you’re not doing anything wrong, you’re doing everything right.”

Cecelia is auditioning for professional skating shows and plans to spend the next year training for the next on ice adventure!

We’re so excited for all that’s to come for Cecelia and look forward to having her at the rink as she continues to explore the ice! 😍

SMSC coach and skater, Cecelia, rose to the challenge and entered the Quest4Creativity choreography competition this month. 🤩 21 skaters under the age of 19 submitted unique programs choreographed individually without any help. These pieces required of the artists planning, thinking outside the box, and courage as their pieces were shared publicly on May 16th. ⭐️ Cecelia explored musicality and expression, preparing an impressive piece with great attention to detail, space, and movement! You can check out her performance on the AIT youtube channel, along with all 21 submissions, at the 52:16 mark.

Way to go, Cecelia! 🥳🩵

✔️This event is FREE
✔️5/18, 4:45-5:15pm
✔️Stay afterwards to watch skaters share their talents at our Flight of The Eagle event!
✔️Non-SMSC friends must sign a waiver before joining us on ice
✔️Skaters under the age of 18 who haven’t passed our Basic Skills level 4 MUST wear a helmet
