Closer to grass, sand, dirt, water, woods 💚💙

The Earth is our home, and our communities depend on it to live with dignity and safety. Caring for it is not just an individual act—it means caring for our families, our neighborhoods, and the future we want to build together.

Today we remember that when we come together, we can protect our home and build a future where everyone has the right to breathe, grow, and thrive.

"Gradually I came to understand that a childhood spent playing in the woods had given me a kinship to the natural world that felt very much like family." ~ Margaret Renkl (https://margaretrenkl.com/)

Minnesota now has just 19 electric school buses, but more than 20 districts are waiting on deliveries, some by the 2026-2027 school year.

Touch grass, they say. Hug a tree. Stomp snow. Feel rain. Wade in the creek. Dig in dirt. Watch squirrels. Listen to birds. Collect pinecones. Rocks. Leaves. Sticks. Simple stuff. Nature is our playground and the earth is our friend. Be kind with friends. Enjoy time together. Smile. Play. Run. Climb. Jump. Relax. Breathe. Listen. Sing. Sing, dear child, SING.

Get outside for health & wellness, planet care & protection! 🌍 Everyone belongs outdoors! 🍃 Committing every day to kids! ⭐️ WE GOT THIS!

We encourage you to join us in supporting anti-racism in outdoor learning, not just in February but every day: uplifting and amplifying the work being done, learning more, celebrating Black joy in nature and taking action. 🌿

Every February we honour the legacies, contributions, struggles, and triumphs of Black communities. TMO is recognizing both Black History Month and Black Futures Month, acknowledging the past and present while also looking forward to an equitable future that celebrates Black leadership, resilience, and innovation.

To help us celebrate Black voices in the outdoors and support anti-racism in outdoor learning, we’re sharing some incredible individuals and organizations over on our blog who are at the forefront of this work along with some of our favourite books for learners and educator resources.

When the snow & cold weather returns, the kids ask a lot of questions about how do the animals make it through winter. We talk about homes & survival, adapting & finding food. We think about other living beings that we share this earth with. We care.

This past week we sent away our beautiful St. Peter, Minnesota monarcas on their “monarch migration” to their warm overwintering sanctuaries in areas near Michoacán, México. Kids in the Michoacán region will receive our mariposas as we share butterfly stories & dig into lessons over the next many months. Connections! Kids! Nature!
