Dune Savers – SPB will meet Friday morning, May 22nd, at 22nd Avenue on Pass-a-Grille Beach, 7:30 am to 8:30 am. Recommend gloves, eye protection, refillable water bottle (we have a cooler of water for refills), and closed-toed shoes due to sandspurs and cactus. Please park at a metered parking space between 22nd and 21st Avenues, and see Deb for a parking pass – no need to pay for parking. Mother-of-Millions, mother-in-law tongue (Sansevieria), and very aggressively spreading Night-Blooming Cereus are the culprit plants we are removing from this area.

The City of St. Pete Beach came through for us again last week with a flatbed truck. We had to stop removing invasive and aggressive plants because the truck was full!!! This is a group of hard-working people and it is amazing what they accomplished in one hour! Thank you one and all! One of our young volunteers planted a tray of dune sunflowers – this is before she goes to school in the morning! Many thanks!

Last week the crew worked to clear Australian Pine residual parts from the dunes and was able to plant 32 - 1gallon Sea Oats. Thank you to our plant donor as well as our hardworking volunteers and neighbors who donated water and stopped by! We can now watch this section that was once dominated by invasive non-native Australian Pines grow back to natural native habitat.

We would also like to wish a very Happy Mother’s Day to all the wonderful mothers out there!

Last week the city supplied us with a flatbed truck and we loaded it up with a lot of undesirable plants; Mother-of-Millions, mother-in-law tongue (Sansevieria), Brazilian pepper, and miles of Night-Blooming Cereus. There were eight enthusiastic volunteers! Six volunteers worked in the dunes at the crossover on 23rd Avenue, and two volunteers headed south and removed an Australian pine and lots of trash. Thank you one and all, and especially to Mike and Leslie for removing the mother of all cactus roots. Good riddance to that bundle of trouble! Thank you to the City of St. Pete Beach for your support!

Thanks to our Monday crew, we have been able to really clear a lot of non-native invasive Mother-In-Law Tongue/Snake Plant. We have been filling our 6 totters diligently every week. It all adds up to a big number at the end of the year. Again we are thankful for everyone’s participation and support!

We had a great crew of energetic volunteers working in this area last Friday! They removed six totters full of invasive plants. We sincerely appreciate the USF students who volunteered and did a superb job (and they are much better at selfies than we are)! The invasive plants don’t stand a chance.

With the help of the City of St Pete Beach, resident donors, and Dune Saver volunteers and others, we planted 1400 Sea Oats on Sat. 4/18! What a win for the dunes and for our community. Thank You!
