Workers Memorial Day is a reminder that safety isn't optional. The safety measures enforced in the workplace are often the difference between someone's loved one coming home or not.

Right now, the USDA is moving forward with a rule that would speed up lines in meatpacking plants, in direct contradiction to their own research on the risk that would pose to workers.

It does not have to be this way. The USDA has received 42,000 comments from UFCW members and the public urging them to abandon this rule that would set safety standards back decades.

It is our responsibility to honor those who have lost their lives by fighting to protect those still standing.
