MN schools prepare for the threats of deportation & family separation: “There’s a real sense of anxiety, of uncertainty,” said Carlos Mariani Rosa, executive director of the Minnesota Education Equity Partnership, which hosted the seminar.

As a new Trump administration nears power, some communities are bracing for potential mass deportations and the impact they may have on schools. It’s especially concerning in small-town districts like St. James and Butterfield where most of the kids are Latino.

We are so honored to be a 2024 Bush Prize recipient! This award recognizes the collective achievements we have made to advance race equity in education in Minnesota, and it underscores the transformative power of bold, community-led solutions in building a racially just, inclusive, and equitable education system.

This award belongs to all of us—community members, parents, students, educators, district and higher-ed leaders, faculty, and staff— working to create education spaces where POCI students use their power to contribute to the learning experience, shape the world around them, and define their aspirations and identity within it.

With this award, we have an even bigger opportunity to expand our collective impact, deepen partnerships and collaborations, and mobilize even more race equity leaders through our Race Equity Training Center.

We hope you will join us in this critical movement to build a racially just Minnesota where everyone has the opportunity to thrive!

Thank you to the Bush The Bush Foundation and Saint Paul & Minnesota Foundation for their support and recognition!

“Historic investments” in teachers means historic investments in racial equity.

A truly “historic investment” would acknowledge our changing societal conditions and provide teachers with vigorous professional learning opportunities that support their success in culturally validating and meeting each child’s needs while eliminating the persistent underservicing of our POCI students.

NEW REPORT! What does it look like when we build an education system that honors and uplifts the lived experiences of students who are People of Color and Indigenous (POCI)?

MnEEP's 2023 State of Students of Color and American Indian Students Executive Summary demonstrates why Culturally Validating Pedagogy and Leadership (CVP/L) is critical for improving outcomes for POCI students and advancing racial equity and educational excellence in Minnesota.

This report is a critical resource for educators, K-12 leaders, and higher-ed leaders, staff, and faculty to understand, design, and support CVP/L in all education spaces—and to advance racial equity and excellence for POCI students with the intentionality and urgency POCI students deserve.

Our Story

Minnesota Education Equity Partnership (formerly MMEP) uses a race equity lens to transform educational institutions, organizations, and leaders to ensure that students of color and American Indian students achieve full academic and leadership success.

We envision a just society in which an equitable educational ecosystem ensures all students achieve their full potential. Achieving this vision would mean that race is no longer a predictor of educational success.

MnEEP works closely with communities of color, educators, corporations, government and nonprofits to publish research and develop programs that help students of color and American Indian students succeed academically. We have had key initiatives with programs that focus on crucial elements of Race Equity: the MN College Access Network, the African American Males in Education Advisory and its subgroup, Solutions Not Suspensions, Race Equity and Excellence in Education Network, Emerging Multilingual Learners Network, #TeachMN2020, and a Research Collaborative Table.
