This month, we’re kicking off our third cohort of CAAL Ignite, investing in 21 Asian American businesses, entrepreneurs, and nonprofits across Minnesota. We’re excited to welcome this new group and support their ideas, growth, and impact in communities across the state.

“What CAAL Ignite shows is what’s possible when we invest in the people and ideas driving our communities forward,” said CAAL Board Chair Nicole Dailo Jison. “These grants help entrepreneurs and organizations thrive while creating lasting economic and community impact across Minnesota.”

As we launch this cohort, we’re also reminded that more investment is needed to keep the flame burning and ensure more community-rooted leaders have access to the resources and opportunities they need to thrive.

Nearly half (49%) of AAPI registered voters nationwide prefer voting by mail or ballot drop-off, according to the 2026 AAPI Voter Survey—34% prefer voting by mail and 15% prefer ballot drop-off.

Here’s what you need to know about voting by mail or ballot drop-off in Minnesota:

☑️ Any eligible Minnesota voter can vote early by absentee ballot via mail or ballot drop-off—you don’t need a reason.

☑️ Follow all ballot instructions carefully, complete all required signatures and the witness section, and return your ballot early!

☑️ If you’re mailing your ballot, it must be received by Election Day on November 3. A postmark alone does not count.

☑️ If you're dropping off your ballot, it must be received by Election Day on November 3 by 5 p.m. at the election office that sent your ballot or a designated ballot drop box. Do not take your absentee ballot to your Election Day polling place.

Minnesota’s General Election is Tuesday, November 3, and you have options for how and when you vote:

📬 Vote by mail — Apply for an absentee ballot. It’s recommended that you apply by October 20 to allow enough time to receive and return your ballot.

🏛️ Vote early in person — Early voting begins October 16.

🗳️ Vote in person on Election Day — Polls are open Tuesday, November 3.

CAAL was proud to stand alongside our allies in the fight to protect our civil liberties and to be part of the “People of Minnesota” procession at the 39th Hispanic Heritage Awards in Minneapolis!

It was a great honor to see the People of Minnesota recognized with the Humanitarian Award for coming together in response to the impact of Metro Surge on immigrant and refugee communities.

We’re proud to continue standing with our communities and being part of this movement to protect our democracy.

CAAL participated in the Minnesota Truth Council’s public meetings at the State Capitol and Mayo Civic Center in Rochester this September.

At the Capitol, CAAL Executive Director ThaoMee Xiong testified alongside dozens of Minnesotans who shared their experiences and responded to the unprecedented impact of Metro Surge on immigrant and refugee communities, where she cited a recent analysis by Stop AAPI Hate Action

“ICE’s actions against immigrants have increased most deeply for Asian Americans overall. Arrests for Asian immigrants increased 436% compared to 219% overall.”
