Teaching Artist Spotlight: Esther Ouray
For over 45 years Esther has thrived as a teaching and performing artist, throughout which she has returned to Earth Lab to lead a variety of summer arts workshops. Esther has guided numerous residencies in schools, communities, and arts organizations locally, regionally, and internationally. She is presently the Company Manager of Zamya Theater Project, a theater that uses the combination of artistic expression and lived experience of homelessness to inspire communities to work towards housing justice. For many years she was a core artist with In the Heart of the Beast Theater. Holding a broad range of interests, Esther seeks out opportunities that bring people together for the common good.

Youth of all ages are invited to attend Teaching Artist Esther Ouray’s eARTh Lab Workshop--We are Part of the Watershed

During this week's eARTh Lab workshop, Teaching Artist Mayme Mayme Dosnker began the workshop with a zen water mark making activity, focusing on impermanence and reflection.

Then she demonstrated how native plant can be used to make pigment and guided the youth in techniques in using the pigment to create their own watercolor paintings inspired by nature.

We hope to see you at our next eARTh Lab on Tuesday July 23th from 1:30-4PM. Learn more: https://publicartstpaul.org/project/earthlab/

We are thrilled to announce that the underpass along Sibley Street and East 2nd Street in downtown Saint Paul has been selected as the location of the 2026 Wakpá Triennial Art Festival’s principal public artwork. During the festival’s opening weekend, September 12th-13th, a “poster tapestry” will be created on the railroad wall along a block of East 2nd street.

Why was the underpass along Sibley St. and E. 2nd St. in downtown Saint Paul selected?

“Our aim is to present artists' voices at street level, in an area near the river and also near Lowertown's activities -- cafes, Union Depot, and places like the Minnesota Museum of American Art. The location is self-contained, can be activated through performance and gatherings but most of all gives artists a speakers' corner to say what they want through their artwork, in this moment right in public.”
--Wakpá Triennial Festival Curators Robert Cozzolino and Angela Two Stars

The Wakpá Triennial returns this fall, September 12th-October 11th, guided by the theme “A Moment to Pause.” This theme invites artists and audiences to slow down, reflect, and reconnect—both with themselves and with the land, water, and communities that hold them.

Stay tuned for more information and exclusive interviews with commissioned artists!
