Bulky Item Program Changes

As of July 1, 2026, Saint Paul residents in 1-4-unit homes no longer need to schedule bulky item pickups ahead of garbage collection days.

How to prepare your bulky items for collection:
1. Place item(s) out by 6:00 a.m. on your regular garbage collection day
2. Label items with the word, “Bulky”
3. Set items next to, but not leaning against, your garbage cart

All items must be emptied of food and any liquids. For example, water heaters must be drained, refrigerators must be emptied, small engines drained of oil and gas.

On your garbage collection day:
-The garbage driver will place a special sticker on your item(s) labeled bulky.
-Within two business days, a separate truck will return to collect the bulky item(s).

Mattresses, box springs, and metal bed frames must still be scheduled for collection. These items are not considered bulkies and are collected by our partner Second Chance Recycling. Mattress collection is FREE and does not count toward your annual 12 bulky item total. To schedule a mattress pickup, visit www.stpaul.gov/mattressrecycling.

As a part of the City Budget Process, CM Coleman will be hosting Ward 4’s Budget Engagement Meeting on September 14th from 6-7:30 pm. It will be hosted at Hancock Rec Center, 1610 Hubbard Ave. There will also be a special presentation from the Office of Financial Empowerment regarding tenant protections. Please review the lastest updates for the Grand Avenue Construction project:

Water Service Repair between Macalester & Cambridge streets Scheduled for August 19
Water service repairs to address a leak on Grand Avenue are scheduled for tomorrow, Wednesday, August 19. The water service leak is located under the north curb in front of 1655 Grand Avenue, between Macalester and Cambridge streets.
Construction is scheduled to occur on Wednesday, August 19 from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
To make the needed repairs, water service will be shut off to some properties from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. All properties being impacted by this work were notified by Saint Paul Regional Water Services on Monday, August 17.
Traffic Impacts
The westbound driving lane on Grand Avenue will be closed between Macalester Street and Cambridge Street.
No parking will be allowed on the north side of Grand Avenue between Macalester Street and Cambridge Street.
There will be additional temporary traffic impacts as the curb is replaced and the road repaved after the water repairs are completed.

Please see the City of Saint Paul - Government updated information below regarding the Grand Avenue and Snelling Avenue Intersection. Th East side of the intersection is set to close, tomorrow, Thursday July 23rd and will remain closed till mid-September.
