Just finished a meeting to plan the transition of some of our work. Difficult but made ever so much easier by a pile of chocolate. Love to Teenwise partners!

For almost 25 years Teenwise Minnesota has been the source on adolescent s*xual health in the state. During that time, and with your help, Teenwise has contributed to a record breaking drop in unintended teen pregnancy in Minnesota, increased support for teen parents, and the delivery of high quality youth-centered s*xual health education and services.

The Board of Directors and I firmly believe that the mission of Teenwise is valued and needed. However, we have come to the realization that the current organizational model is not sustainable. It is with great sadness that the Board of Directors has moved to close Teenwise Minnesota effective November 30, 2015. We are currently working to transfer calendared work activities and to figure out what will happen to Teenwise’s key features the field has depended on for so many years.

Please know, we did not come to this decision lightly. Our Board and staff honor and respect the role this organization has played for more than two decades. We appreciate your good thoughts and your patience in this difficult time.

And for everyone who gave of their time, talent and “treasure”, we want to thank you for the service you provided to the organization and to the young people of Minnesota.

Regards,
Teenwise Board of Directors and Staff

We’re mixing baseball and football – for a good cause

Teenwise Minnesota’s ‘Be Wise’ benefit event is coming up on Thursday, September 24th at the new home of the Saint Paul Saints. And if that weren’t exciting enough, our Emcee for the evening will knock your cleats off: Esera Tuaolo!

Born on Oahu Island in Hawaii, Esera Tuaolo played in the NFL for 10 consecutive seasons and was one of the first professional athletes to come out gay. Since leaving the NFL he has devoted much of his time to reduce the bullying and harassment many young people experience, especially if they are or are perceived to be LGBQ. Several years ago he created an organization, Hate in Any Form is Wrong, to help address the issues of bullying and minimize the negative impact that hate has on our society, especially with today’s youth. Esera’s aim is to bring people together to learn how to embrace and value each other’s differences.

And not only is he a great athlete (and a chef) and a warm human being – he is an awesome singer. Check out his rendition of the national anthem at a Timberwolves game. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w-qDUoUuDh4
