We're excited to announce that we're looking for new Board of Directors members for The Phoenix Residence and Phoenix Service Corporation!

Want to get more involved at Phoenix? Do you have a heart for the work we do and want to do more? Join our Board of Directors team! Board members provide governance leadership, support the organization’s mission, help guide strategic priorities, and promote strong stewardship of resources and services.

We welcome interest from individuals who are committed to The Phoenix Residence Inc.’s mission and who can contribute leadership, professional expertise, lived experience, community connections, or a strong commitment to supporting people with mental health needs, physical disabilities, and intellectual disabilities. Individuals selected to serve will help guide the organization’s strategic direction and uphold its governance responsibilities.

Board Terms are 3 years in accordance with organizational bylaws.

We wanted to share a special moment from Janet Court. Molly and Deborah celebrated their birthdays recently, and Janet Court staff and their peers came together to celebrate this wonderful milestone. Deborah turned 70 and Molly turned 30.

It was a beautiful celebration filled with fun, laughter and happiness. Deborah was especially excited that she held Molly’s hands, sang, and danced during the celebration. Molly could not stop smiling and appeared to truly enjoy the moment.

The manager at Janet Court noticed one particularly sweet and touching moment happened while the cake was being shared. Deborah noticed that Molly had not yet received a piece and immediately reminded staff that Molly needed to have some cake as well. Her caring tone and thoughtful gesture toward her peer made the moment especially heartwarming. It's moments like this that make it all worth it!

The lake was buzzing with excitement this past weekend as we joined six other disability service providers for our annual Made in the Shade 5K Walk, Run & Roll! The lake came alive with fun, food, and laughter as our community gathered to raise awareness of the disability community and the issues we face. Participants enjoyed lunch, made their way around the lake, voted in the Art Contest, warmed up before the walk, met miniature horses, and had their faces painted. From reconnecting with old friends to welcoming new ones, the event was a joyful reminder of why this is always one of our favorite days of the year!

As we close out Direct Support Professionals Week, we'd like to thank all of our incredible staff for all you do for the individuals we support! We wouldn't be able to do our work without you! 🫶🙏

To conclude the week, we'd like to recognize two of our direct care staff whom we nominated this year for ANCOR American Network of Community Options and Resources's Direct Support Professional of the Year Award: Thekeisha Thomas and Shelley Peltier.

While they didn't win this year's award, being nominated for this national award is in honor in itself! Congratulations Thekeisha and Shelley! We are so grateful for you!

Made in the Shade is THIS Saturday, September 19th!!

We will gather for a day of food, music, and a walk around the lake. We hope you can join us for this the big day as we join with six other disability providers to raise awareness our community!

Please join us Saturday morning at 9:30 am at Thomas Beach on Bde Maka Ska Lake (aka Lake Calhoun) on the south side of the lake. All are welcome to attend, so bring your friends and family!

Event Schedule

9:30 a.m. - Check-In at Thomas Beach
10:00 a.m. - Program
10:20 a.m. - Pre-Walk Warm-Up
10:30 a.m. - Walk, Run and Roll Sh***un Start
11:00 a.m. - Post-Walk Celebration with Music and Lunch

Today, we celebrate you and the extraordinary difference you make every day. Your commitment, compassion, and service are at the heart of our mission and essential to the quality of life of the people we support.

This work cannot be done without people who genuinely care about other people. You bring patience, dignity, encouragement, and respect to every interaction. In moments both large and small, you help people feel valued, supported, and empowered to live meaningful lives.

The Countdown Begins: 1 Month Until Made in the Shade 5K Walk, Run & Roll!

If you like meeting new people or seeing old friends, our Made in the Shade 5K Walk is the place to be! And that is exactly why Cody from our Carver House loves going to the event each year! This will be his sixth year at the event, and he is looking forward to it!

“I like going because it is fun and I get to meet different people. I love seeing all the different art projects,” recalled Cody. His favorite memory from the event is walking around the lake with Darlene [our CEO], her husband, and Angel [his program supervisor] and talking to them.

He has been so invested in the event; he even has suggestions for next year!

This year, Cody is hoping to raise enough for a new dining table and chairs for the house. This is the heart of the Carver home, but the furniture is getting old and needs an update.

Help Cody — or any of our homes — reach their goal! Every home is fundraising for something that will bring added comfort, joy, or meaningful experiences to the people who live there. Your support helps bring these wishes to life while strengthening our mission to provide person-centered care that helps them live happy, fulfilling lives.
