CONGRATULATIONS!
After four years of organizing, nursing home workers at Northridge Nursing Home have won their union with SEIU Healthcare MN & IA by an overwhelming majority.

This victory was delayed, challenged, and fought every step of the way. Their vote was held up for two years during an investigation into management’s unfair labor practices, but the workers refused to let delays or union-busting tactics break their momentum.

When their day finally came, Northridge workers showed exactly what patience, courage, and collective power can accomplish.

No matter what name is on the building, our members will continue to deliver the care patients depend on every day.
We will work to protect our members, safeguard quality care, and ensure workers are respected through this transition.

SEIU member leaders were proud to be at the Republican Party of Minnesota Endorsing Convention, making sure workers, caregivers, and the people who depend on our services are part of the conversation.

No matter the party, our message is the same: the work we do strengthens communities, supports families, and keeps Minnesota moving. We are showing up, building relationships, and making sure the voices of working people are heard where decisions are made.

Our members were are at the DFL State Convention making sure our elected leaders hear a simple message: our work matters, our programs matter, and the people we serve matter.

The services we provide keep Minnesota running. When legislators invest in workers, caregivers, and the communities we serve, they are investing in the strength and future of our state. We are there to make sure those voices are heard.

As we close Asian Pacific Islander Heritage Month, we honor Yoshi our Member Vice President of the Southeast Sector.

Yoshi represents leadership rooted in purpose, solidarity, and service. His work reflects the strength API members bring to our union and the real power of leaders who lift others while moving our movement forward.

The measure’s inclusion in the larger Department of Human Services package demonstrates the lobbying power of SEIU Health Care Minnesota and Iowa, which has vociferously argued for back pay to nursing home workers that had expected a wage bump in 2026.

As unions and the eldercare industry duke it out in court, they both praised the state’s one-time bailout for employees.

Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month

This May, SEIU honors the Asian American and Pacific Islander workers, members, families, and communities whose labor, leadership, and sacrifice helped build this country and continue to strengthen our union.

May was chosen to recognize the arrival of the first Japanese immigrant to the United States on May 7, 1843, and the completion of the transcontinental railroad on May 10, 1869, built largely by Chinese immigrant workers.

This month, we celebrate heritage, history, worker power, and the API members who continue to care, lead, organize, and move our communities forward.
