Hail to the graduates! Minnesota American Legion College was held April 23-25 at Camp Ripley. Minnesota Legion College is open to Legion, Auxiliary, SAL and Riders members. It takes place in April, with the registration deadline usually around mid-March. It is a special experience, allowing members to learn about the Legion Family and to stay on a military base once again. Statewide friendships are formed. Gov. Tim Walz signed into law Tuesday the fifth Veterans and Military Affairs Omnibus Bill, allowing much of the legislation pertaining to veterans to avoid being used as a political football for other issues. The measure contains policy changes for the MDVA, National Guard and recognition for Special Guerrilla Units that fought in Southeast Asia during the Vietnam War. Many of the lawmakers at the gathering lamented that the Legislature failed to pass the Disabled Veterans Homestead Property Tax Exclusion.
