“Never before has our conference felt like a museum.”

We spent a couple days with to learn about and gather stories about their work at their annual gathering in Phoenix.

Some of the best work we do at A Peace of My Mind is to partner with groups making positive change in the world and use our storytelling and art to celebrate and amplify that work.

Preaching to the choir, you say? Nah…encouraging the choir, so they keep singing.

Change work is hard work. Is good work.

“Seek peace and pursue it.” Grateful to partner with our friends at San Pablo church in Minneapolis as we lean into a new storytelling project, supported by McKnight Foundation. Over the next year we will gather stories in five communities across the state to see how Minnesotans reflect on 250 years of this American experiment. How are we doing? What can we celebrate and where do we have work to do?

“Havre is not alone.

Located in the flatlands of north central Montana, it’s a rural community of about 10,000 people. That’s about the size of the town I grew up in.

Life there can be beautiful. It sits just north of the Bears Paw Mountains. Big skies. Ranching country.

But life there can be hard, too...”

There’s a new series of stories posted on our website.

When have you found unexpected courage?

Exploring what’s possible.

As we start work on a series of community projects supported by the first step is

Over the years A Peace of My Mind has developed and practiced a set of tools that can use art and storytelling to open conversations, build connections, and imagine new possibilities together.

That doesn’t mean it looks the same everywhere we go. Imposing structures and systems in a sort of “one size fits all” methodology is a part of what creates tension.

Instead, we and learn about the needs and aspirations of a community. Then we shape programming together to try to meet those needs and aspirations.

So yesterday, we started the process in Willmar, one of our partner communities. We met with civic leaders and stakeholders to see if there was a way to use what we do to help amplify what they are already doing.

The question: “Do you want to try this?”

The answer: “Yes!”

We walk through the doors that open. We do this together. And I can’t wait to get going.

This is the start of a two year project. Stay tuned for updates.

I’m grateful to have an article in the summer issue of Lilipoh: the spirit in life.

Listening as an Act of Courage.

“In a time when conversations often feel like collisions-sharp, reactive, and fleeting-there is something quietly radical about listening. Not waiting to speak. Not looking for an argument. But a deeper, slower, more human kind of listening-one that asks us to soften, to stay, to be changed.”
