Leadership is in our youth, and we need to ensure we have leaders today who feel fully equipt to lead a community. The Latino community in Minnesota has had a traditionally small and transient leadership base, which has resulted in the closing of many promising Latino nonprofits that were essential to meeting specific cultural and advocacy needs of our unique communities. Hispanic Advocacy and Com
munity Empowerment Through Research(HACER), in partnership with Macalester College, is hoping to change this. Our Latino Leadership Academy will hold its first session this February 2017 with Latino students from around the metro area. A day and a half of training and networking will give the students the skills they need to begin community project of their choosing. After the first session, students will be assigned a mentor, who for the next few months will act as a guide in their project building, which will culminate in a second session in which students can receive more training while also reflecting on their project and future service. We will be taking applications for the program November # - December #. Requirements to be considered are listed below:
-Currently attend one of the following colleges: Macalester, Concordia, Bethel, St. Kates, Hamline, and Augsburg
-Have a basic project design in mind that is targeted toward the local Latino community
-Be eager, motivated, and dedicated to becoming a leader both in and outside the Latino Community
