Contradiction #1: What is safe ENOUGH?

Safety comes in many forms—physical, emotional, social.

When we’re constantly in fight-or-flight mode, it’s incredibly difficult to grow, make wise decisions, or heal. We all deserve to feel safe. Yet the world often feels far from it—especially for the LGBTQIA+ community.

So, how do we find enough safety to be ourselves while grounding for the hardships ahead? How do you heal from trauma while you’re still living it?

There is no easy 1-2-3 solution. How we navigate this contradiction is deeply personal. Some find safety in faith; others in an affirming community, or by pouring themselves into the fight for justice, equality, and love.

At Mental Health Minnesota, we strive to create that "safe enough" space. Every day, we work to:
▸ Fight the stigma that makes people hide their struggles.
▸ Educate communities about mental health.
▸ Advocate for policies that make accessible care a reality.

You deserve to feel safe. You deserve to BE safe. And we are always here for you.

We’re officially on-site at Cragun's Resort today and tomorrow for the Minnesota Sheriffs' Association (MSA) Summer Conference! ⭐

From managing heavy county-wide call volumes to navigating mental health and substance use resources in jail facilities, we know that Sheriffs, Chief Deputies, and supervisors face immense operational challenges every day. You don’t have to be a behavioral health expert to protect your team and your community—that’s what we’re here for.

If you are attending the conference, please stop by our exhibitor booth during the expo hours to learn how a partnership with us can help your agency:

📞 Direct behavioral health calls to the right regional resources.
🛠️ Deliver essential crisis diversion tools—like the Minnesota Warmline and 988—straight to your county.
🚑 Relieve pressure on your frontline personnel so your staff can focus on critical public safety emergencies.

Safe travels to the Minnesota Sheriffs wrapping up their sessions today, and a warm welcome to the incoming Chief Deputies and Supervisors starting their training! Let’s work together to build a safer, healthier Minnesota.

In Ojibwe, Mino-Bimaadiziwin translates to "a healthy life"—but it’s about so much more than just those three words. It's also the theme for the Fond du Lac Health Fair today.

What makes a healthy life? While this is shaped by your own unique experiences, values, community, and environment, we also know that a core component of well-being is mental wellness.

That’s exactly why Mental Health Minnesota is honored to be here today. After all, a healthy life isn’t a destination; it’s a journey we take together. No one should walk it alone, and every community deserves to feel supported and empowered to care for their members' mental health.

If you are attending today's event, please stop by our table! We'd love to chat and share information about our free and anonymous resources like the Minnesota 988 Lifeline and the Minnesota Warmline, designed to support your mental health and the wellness of every Minnesota community. 🤝💚

These two words can cost lives.

Men experience mental health conditions at the exact same rates as women, but they are four times more likely to die by su***de.

Why? Because a heavy cultural stigma tells men they must be stoic, unemotional, and ruggedly independent. We too often confuse silence with strength, dismissing real pain with outdated phrases.

As we mark Men’s Health Month this June, it’s time to change the narrative. There is no health without mental health.

True strength isn't about struggling in silence—it’s about having the courage to speak up and seek support. By modeling healthy masculinity, we create space for the boys and men in our lives to do the same.

Let’s redefine what it actually means to "man up."

If you or a man in your life is navigating a difficult time, please don't wait. Taking a quick, confidential online screening can be the first step toward getting clarity and support: mentalhealthmn.org/what-we-do/screening/

👇 Please share this post. You never know which man on your timeline needs to see this today.

Life is full of contradictions. Surviving and then thriving means embracing those contradictions and holding space for complex and conflicting ideas and priorities.

This Pride Month we want to explore what it means to live in the gray area and find what works in a world that doesn’t always have clear answers, and this idea couldn’t be captured better than by the writer Kai Cheng Thom in her poem titled “What the Q***r Community Should Have Told Us”:

What the Q***r Community Should Have Told Us
by Kai Cheng Thom

1. you are perfect
& also flawed
2. you are allowed to make mistakes
& you must be accountable for them
3. accountability is not a price you pay in blood
for being human
4. justice is not violence
5. integrity & blind obedience
are not the same thing
6. no one’s truth is more important than yours
& your truth is no more important
than anyone else’s
7. just because someone is famous
does not mean that they are honest
8. your worth cannot be measured
by the number of your scars
9. you are worth saving
& you are worth holding
& you are worth teaching
& you are worth more than political theory
& you are not disposable
& you will not be thrown away
10. your body is not weapon
11. your words are not a curse
12. your intentions do matter
& so do your actions
13. we cannot live without each other
& you belong only to yourself
14. you never owe it to anyone
to hurt or degrade yourself
15. you are allowed to be angry
but you are not allowed to be cruel
16. you are not a political experiment, or symbol, or token, or tool
17. you are precious
18. you are whole
19. you are essential
20. you are a gift
21. you are loved
22. you are loved
23. you are loved
24. you are loved
25. you are loved
26. you are loved
27. you are loved
28. you are loved
29. you are loved
30. you are loved
31. you are loved
32. you are loved
33. you are loved
…..

Let’s celebrate the diversity, struggle, and triumph of the LGBTQIA+ community this month — Happy Pride!

Sometimes it takes time to figure out what works for you.

Working toward “more good days” doesn't have to feel like a chore or an act of drudgery. Finding out what helps can be an ACT OF EXPLORATION—you deserve to find out what sparks joy, brings you peace, and helps you feel good.

Fact: When we see taking care of our mental health as a chore, we’re not likely to do it.

So remember that taking care of your mental health can mean seeking relaxation, finding new hobbies, and having fun for fun’s sake. Get creative and try things that actually appeal to you—do that and you’ve turned self-care from a task into an adventure.
