On January 30-31, Education Minnesota Retired had 9 delegates attend the Political Conference sponsored by Education Minnesota for members, statewide, active and retired. Sessions began Friday evening and continued through Saturday, ending at 3 PM. At the lunch program we heard from several outstanding political figures in our state: Governor Tim Walz, Attorney General Keith Ellison, and Senator Amy Klobuchar, candidate for governor. We also witnessed a question/response forum between Lieutenant Governor Peggy Flanagan and Representative Angie Craig, both vying for the US Senate seat being vacated by Tina Smith.

Over the course of two days, our dedicated volunteers successfully prepared over 10,000 envelopes for Education Minnesota Retired elections. Their efforts ensure the timely distribution of ballots and return envelopes to our members statewide. Well done, volunteers! You should soon receive your ballots, which must be returned by March 2.

3 Education Minnesota Governing Board members attended the Wisconsin Retired Annual Meeting and Conference in Oshkosh. A great conference put on by our colleagues in Wisconsin! Thanks, President Tom Zigan for including us.

Today we celebrated Education Minnesota Retired’s 25th Anniversary! We celebrated at our Annual Meeting at the Doubletree Hotel in Bloomington. Our photos include 4 of the original Board of Directors, some of the participants at today’s meeting, the planning committee surrounding our celebratory table. Also included are photos of a couple of presenters, and some of the posters with photos of Retired members at past events. We happily look forward to our next 25 years!

The Annual NEA Leadership Summit, March 7-9 and the NEA Retired Conference, March 10-11 were held in Detroit, Michigan. The theme this year was: Promote, Protect, Strengthen Public Education: The Foundation of our Democracy. 13 Education Minnesota Retired members attended. NEA President Becky Pringle opened the event. She reminded us that when we all act together, we threaten the power of the opposition. The Summit and Conference were filled with excellent breakout sessions and keynote speakers.
A highlight of the Conference was celebrating the passage of the Social Security Fairness Act(GPO/WEP).

The 6th Annual Border Conference was attended by 70+ retired members from Wisconsin (WEAC-Retired) and Minnesota (Education Minnesota Retired) on Tuesday, November 12, 2024, in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. The keynote speaker was the Wisconsin Secretary of State, Sarah Godlewski. Other speakers included Ron “Duff” Martin, NEA Executive Committee member, WEAC-Retired president Tom Zigan, Education Minnesota Retired President Wes Tessman, NEA Board of Directors Judy Rohde, representing Retired, and Education Minnesota Secretary-Treasurer Rodney Rowe.
A variety of breakout sessions were offered along with a silent auction of wonderful items with proceeds ($2032) going to the NEAFund for Children and Public Education.
Next year’s 7th annual will be held in Minnesota, stay tuned for more information in 2025!

Education Minnesota Retired board members met with Burnsville Area Retired Teachers at their fall social. Also present were Education Minnesota president Denise Specht, NEA President Becky Pringle, AFT president Randi Weingarten, and AFT Secretary-Treasurer Fed Ingram.

The Minnesota State Retiree Council - AFL-CIO held it's convention last weekend. Education Minnesota Retired sent 10 delegates to join other retirees from education and many other organized labor retirees.
