🪶 Another conference some of our staff attended during the last week of July was the 2026 Minnesota American Indian Institute on Alcohol and Drug Studies (MAIIADS) Conference at the Fond du Lac Tribal & Community College!

The mission for the annual MAIIADS conference is: “To provide education on alcohol and drug abuse that addresses the total well-being of the American Indian individual, family, and community that is sensitive to cultural healing traditions.” The Institute is a time for professionals from American Indian communities to come together and enhance their knowledge about chemical abuse, to discuss ways to approach the healing of their communities, to learn new techniques, and most importantly, to continue their own healing processes.

This year's MAIIADS Conference theme was:
Culture is Prevention: Community is Recovery

🌿 Some of our staff and a few of the Waaban Ogimaawag (Tomorrow's Leaders) Youth attended the Return to First Medicines Annual Gathering Conference presented by the First Medicines Intergenerational Council of the Indigenous Peoples Task Force late last month.

The Return to First Medicines Annual Gathering Conference is an annual event for Adults and Youth to learn about sacred medicines, growing traditional foods, and how to care for the environment. This year it was held at the Shooting Star Casino & Hotel, Mahnomen, MN, with the focus on "Remembering What We Always Knew: We are the Medicine, We are still here, and We are Reclaiming our roots".

We regret to inform you that this month's Traditional Cedar Healing Ceremony, scheduled for Wednesday, August 12, 2026, has been canceled due to unforeseen circumstances. We understand the disappointment this may cause and sincerely apologize for the inconvenience.

Our Traditional Cedar Healing Ceremonies are meant to be held in a good way, with presence, intention, and the collective energy of our team. We’ll wait for a day when we can all come together and offer that care fully.

🎨 Next Wednesday, August 12, 2026, from 12- 4 PM, Waaban Ogimaawag (Tomorrow's Leaders) Life Skills for Youth is hosting a version of "Swap Canvas Painting," a current TikTok trend where participants sit in a circle, spend a few minutes painting, and then continue to swap canvases to paint until the end!
