We are so excited to share that the good work of colleagues and collaborators at the University of Minnesota Morris and Morris Minnesota City Government was featured in the New York Times!

The "Morris Model" was borne, in part, from our nonpartisan Rural Climate Dialogues, fostering rural energy resilience in light of extreme weather and climate change.

We'd be remiss not to say: reach out if you'd like to talk about a Rural Climate Dialogue in your community! We love to dream and scheme!

Across the country, local governments are accelerating their efforts to cut greenhouse gas emissions, in some cases bridging partisan divides. Their role will become increasingly important.

❗❗The report for the Pierce County Rural Climate Dialogue is out!

We are excited that Pierce Conservation District, the Puyallup Watershed Initiative and county partners have already begun responding to the recommendations and findings of the Dialogue. They are currently working with the Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department to coordinate and distribute box fan filters for rural Pierce County residents in order to mitigate the impact of wildfire smoke and improve indoor air quality. ✅

We especially want to thank the Pierce County participants who spent five days working together to create this report and identify these steps for action.

National Data Guardian Responds to Citizens’ Juries’ Findings

“One of the key findings was that members of the public should not just be informed about, but also involved in, decisions about data sharing, in partnership with data experts,” wrote Dr. Nicola Byrne.

📄Read the full response from Dr. Nicola Byrne:

National Data Guardian, Dr Nicola Byrne, talks about the importance of listening well, prompted by a citizens' jury deliberation in which members of the public explored data sharing during the pandemic.

What did we learn from our Pandemic Data Sharing Citizens Juries?

👉Transparency. Enough said for all government entities in democratic societies 🏛
👉🏾Infomed. People are more willing to share their information if they know how it was used, by whom, and for what purpose. 📩
👉🏻Collaboration. Deciding together improves trust 🤝🏽
