Justice Theatre Consortium

Justice Theatre Consortium Justice Theatre Consortium strives to collectively re-construct the way we make Twin Cities theatre.

The Justice Theatre Consortium brings together local artists to collaboratively build equitable, sustainable, healthy systems for making theatre in the Twin Cities. Working both with individual artists and theatre organizations, our aim is to make positive change possible.

Our company exists to bring artists and art organizations together, to share resources, lift each other up, and amplify the artistic reach of those underrepresented in Twin Cities performing arts. We work to collaboratively re-construct the systems we use to make art together.

There is no collaboration without community. There is no consortium if we do not support one another.

We stand with our neighbors against the inhumane and unconstitutional actions of the federal government here in Minnesota.

We must act like free people to be free people.

A huge thank you to our amazing donors during Give to the Max yesterday. We’re an intentionally lean organization to reduce overhead and maximize our ability to come alongside fellow artists and producers and foster the ability to share collective resources.

Thank you to:
David, Duck, Chuck, Ariel, Andrew, Corinna, and Sean.

Our page is still open for additional giving if anyone else is so inclined.

These agreements are part of the new NEA grant requirements.

How could anyone comply with this horrific rhetoric?

Theatres who are actively trying to provide opportunities for underrepresented groups can’t comply.

Theatres who work with artists with disabilities can’t comply.

Theatres who focus on artists over 55 years old can’t comply.

Theatres who tell Asian stories or Black stories or Native American stories or Trans stories, or even birth stories are dead in the water with this.

Theatres who have hired women leaders or veteran leaders, or LGBTQ+ leaders, or BIPOC leaders are at risk.

Dont you want to see art that includes these people? We do.

The reality is, small organizations here in Minnesota already struggle for funding. They didn’t qualify for NEA grants - but the big theatres did. Last we heard we have 35 organizations in Minnesota alone that were expecting grant funding.

We create arts orgs focused on social justice in order to give voice to new stories and new artists. We use the artforms we know to move society forward.

This government administration is trying to strangle the arts because they know we are powerful.

If you are looking for an action to take, consider a donation to an arts org near you that focuses on justice. They are going to need you.
