The UJIMA GROUP

The UJIMA GROUP To empower young men, through Mentoring and Leadership Development, by educating and role modeling, appropriate responses to various situations.

Who we are
The Ujima Group. Ujima (oo-JEE-mah) is a Swahili word meaning collective work and responsibility. The Ujima Group is a collection of seasoned and mature men within the community, who have joined their wisdom, experiences, time, talents, strengths, insight, knowledge, resources and spiritual guidance to help our young men understand the importance of maintaining a strong sense of worth a

nd values. These men understand, that they are the Patriarchs for this generation. Patriarchs who will speak into these young men’s lives and tell them who they are and the great heritage they came from. The Ujima Group represents a collective community taking responsibility. “Each one, reach one; each one teach one.”
The Ujima group will teach these young men how to develop and sustain healthy relationships with one another. The Ujima Group is an intervention model to help young men support one another in behavioral change, as well as provide education on how to survive interaction with law enforcement as well as promoting political, and economic empowerment. This group will teach and demonstrate the principles of manhood to young men, enabling them to achieve their dreams and become men who are strong, responsible and productive. The Ujima Group will prepare and develop young men into men of Integrity, Responsibility, Respect, Honesty, Patience, Discipline, Service, Courage, Accountability, Honor, and great Character. So that these young men can become models for generations to follow. As we go through this journey of life, "STUFF HAPPENS". Being a real man can be intimidating and tough as men try to be Fathers, Sons, Husbands, Brothers and Leaders. The Ujima Group exists to foster the development of our young men into the greatness that is within them. We focus on building Interpersonal Skills, Trust, Brotherhood, Community awareness and above anything else Awareness of who they are and the history of their great heritage. The Goal is to equip men to have a right relationship with God, with themselves, their families and with others. We are not a religious group, yet our roots are very spiritual and connected to a Power greater than ours. We believe “Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend.” – Proverbs 27:17
