Calhoun County First Steps to School Readiness, a non-profit partnership, was established on September 24, 1999. The Partnership goals are to (1) provide parents with access to the support they might seek and want to strengthen their families and to promote the optimal development of their preschool children; (2) increase comprehensive services so children have reduced risk for major physical, dev

elopmental, and learning problems; and (3) provide services so all children receive the protection, nutrition and health care needed to thrive in the early years of life so they arrive at school ready to learn.

💛 This Black Philanthropy Month, we’re reflecting on our WHY. 💛

Over the years, Calhoun County First Steps has had the privilege of walking alongside children and families in our community, helping children build the skills they need to enter school ready to learn, grow, and thrive.

From supporting families through our Parents as Teachers Parent Educators, to hosting a winter drive giveback, our annual Roll & Read event, countdown to kindergarten, and a community day, to creating meaningful learning experiences and connecting families with resources, our WHY has always been simple: every child deserves a strong start, and ready for school.

Thank you to the Central Carolina Community Foundation for hosting such an awesome and meaningful event on “Telling Your Story” during Black Philanthropy Month! ✨ We also spotted our Calhoun County Library mural displayed in their lovely community room space. 

ED Lewis and our Family & Community Engagement Specialist enjoyed their time as this was an inspiring opportunity to connect, learn, and celebrate the power of our families stories and the impact they can have in our communities. They were grateful for spaces that encourage us all to share our voices, honor our experiences, and continue building a stronger impact to the mission of getting children ready for school.
