Today we had the opportunity to visit the St. Mary’s Area School District agriculture education program, and it was truly inspiring to see the incredible opportunities being provided to students through their Agriculture Education Program .

From the vibrant greenhouse filled with student-grown plants to hands-on experiences in farming, livestock care, wildlife education, business and entrepreneurship, candle making, motor rebuilding, and so much more — this program is preparing students with real-world skills that will benefit them for a lifetime.

What stood out most was the passion, knowledge, and professionalism of the FFA students. Their hard work, creativity, and dedication were on full display in every part of the program. Agriculture education today is so much more than farming — it teaches leadership, innovation, responsibility, teamwork, and career readiness in countless fields.

A huge thank you to the teachers, staff, and students for sharing your amazing program with us. The future is bright with young leaders like these making a difference in our communities. 🌱🐄🚜

Had the chance to visit the incredible makerspace at the Community Education Center of Elk and Cameron Counties located at 4 Erie Avenue in St. Marys — and what an inspiring experience!

This space truly brings learning to life. From hands-on STEM opportunities to creative problem-solving and innovation, the makerspace is giving students and community members the tools to explore, build, and think differently. It’s exciting to see how programs like DISCOVER STEM are creating real pathways to future careers and helping develop the technical skills our workforce needs.

And it doesn’t stop there—the first floor features a fully equipped cooking studio, while the third floor offers a dedicated sewing station—expanding opportunities for creativity and life skills in such a unique and engaging way. From engineering to culinary arts to textile design, this space truly offers something for everyone.

A huge thank you to everyone involved in making this resource possible. Facilities like this are more than just classrooms—they’re launching pads for curiosity, creativity, and community growth. Proud to see such forward-thinking right here in our region. Happy 35th Anniversary CEC!

Today, I had the opportunity to visit the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford, and I came away truly impressed. Touring the Duke Building and the engineering department showcased just how cutting-edge their facilities and learning environments are. It’s inspiring to see such a strong commitment to providing our future engineers with the tools, technology, and hands-on experiences they need to succeed.

A sincere thank you to President Rick Esch, Professor Gary Anderson, and Executive Director of Philanthropy and Alumni Engagement Christine Tyler for the warm welcome and insightful tour. It was also great to hear from sophomore engineering student Noah Cherry from Elk County, who shared his personal experiences and perspective on the program.

Opportunities like this highlight the incredible work being done right here in our region to prepare the next generation.

Today, I had the opportunity to visit Family House of Pittsburgh, and I am truly inspired by the incredible work they do every single day.

Family House provides more than just a place to stay — they offer comfort, compassion, and a sense of community for families who are in Pittsburgh seeking medical care. The service is outstanding, the facilities are welcoming, and the staff go above and beyond to make families feel supported during what can be some of the most challenging times in their lives.

In the month of January alone, Elk County residents spent 87 nights at Family House while receiving medical care in the Pittsburgh region. That’s 87 nights of relief, affordability, and peace of mind for families who needed to focus on healing instead of worrying about where to stay.

We are so fortunate to have organizations like Family House making a real difference. Their impact reaches far beyond Pittsburgh — it touches communities like ours in Elk County in meaningful and lasting ways.

Thank you to the entire Family House team for the care, dedication, and heart you bring to your mission every day. 💙
