St. Marys 2023 Bicentennial

The Grand mixes education with entertainment Saturday evening with Jim Tully Night. Tully, a vagabond, pugilist, and author, was born outside of Glynwood and called St. Marys home. His memoir, Beggars of Life, was made into a silent film of the same name, and the movie will be shown at The Grand. Paul Bauer, a Tully co-biographer, will present on Tully's time in Glynwood, St. Marys, and Hollywood. Don't miss this St. Marys 2023 Bicentennial and Auglaize County Historical Society special event. Admission is free will offering with proceeds benefitting the theater revitalization. And...the popcorn is amazing!

On Tuesday, members of the Bicentennial Committee met for our final meeting of the year. We hope the community enjoyed all the events to date and will continue to enjoy the upcoming events as we close out 2023. Thank you all for supporting our efforts to commemorate the 200th birthday of our great city!

The Auglaize County 175th Anniversary Committee presents the "Sacred Spaces of St. Marys" tour on Sunday October 1, 1 to 4 pm. The event is free and open to the public and is also presented in observance of the bicentennial of St. Marys.

First Baptist Church, Holy Rosary Catholic Church, St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Zion Lutheran Church, and the chapel at Elm Grove Cemetery will participate in the Sacred Spaces Tour. All are welcome to learn more about the architecture, history, and mission of these community institutions. Attendees may begin their tour at any of the five sites, where they will receive a booklet about the history of the participating churches/chapel.

For the bicentennial of St. Marys and the 175th of Auglaize County, the anniversary committee has organized a church tour in St. Marys for October 1, from 1 to 4 pm. We have made every effort to invite and include ALL churches in the community. Currently, the First Baptist Church, Holy Rosary Church, St. Paul's United Church of Christ, and Zion Lutheran Church are participating.
