GAIN Michigan G.A.I.N. (Gratiot Animals In Need) provides opportunities for low income pet owners for cat & dog veterinary visits & spay/neuter. We can help!

(Gratiot Animals In Need) promotes spay and neuter education and offers financial assistance and access to low or no cost spay and neuter services for pets in Gratiot County, Michigan. To promote pet retention and reduce the number of pets surrendered to the local shelter, G.A.I.N. will assist pet owners with:
basic veterinary care
food assistance
proper outdoor sheltering
fostering a pet
rehoming a pet

G.A.I.N. can also help keep your barn cat or community cat populations in check via its Trap, Neuter, Release (TNR) program. Need a barn cat to keep vermin in check? You provide shelter, food and water and we provide a spayed/neutered, rabies vaccinated cat/s at no charge. Call (989) 875-2286 for more information. We need Gratiot County volunteers! Hello G.A.I.N. followers! Today we're introducing you to the Fruits litter! These three girls are gorgeous and so sweet!

Persimmon is such a wonderful and beautiful kitten. She is sweet, loving and playful. She can be a bit of a clown at times too. She loves attention and is happy to lay by you and get some loving pets and cuddles. Persimmon loves all types of cat toys. Toys that roll, crinkle and sparkle. She really loves wand toys! She loves her cat tree!

Papaya is as sweet as her name. She is a quiet and loving little girl. She can be just a little shy at first, but when she opens up, she will be all in! She loves attention. She is starting to really like the belly rubs. Scratches, pets, playtime... she is up for all of it. When it comes time to chill and relax, she will be ready for that too. She is a great cuddler

Lychee is such a sweet, all-around great kitten. She is cute as can be with a little orange spot on top of her head and an orange tip on her tail. It is sort of like a built-in lure for extra playtime. She loves attention! This girl would be happy for you to pet her all day long. She is particularly fond of belly rubs and head scratches.

All of these girls are spayed, age appropriately vaccinated, microchipped, and parasite treated. They are also exposed to dogs and should do well with them with proper introductions!

Hello G.A.I.N. followers! We would like to introduce a very special kitten to you! Her name is Steropes and she was one of the cyclops litter. She is about 5.5 months old.

She is not available for adoption just yet, but she is hanging out at Feeders getting some exposure to a new environment, so stop in and see her!

Steropes only has one eye, and she has limited vision in that eye. This makes her a little shy at first, but she's a complete baby doll once she knows you're not scary!

She's definitely an affectionate kitty. She loves to have her butt scratches, long soft pets down to her tail, and she rolls all over so you don't miss any good spots!

She has been around cat friendly dogs and we feel with appropriate introductions she will do well with them. We also feel that she would do best in a home with another cat, so that is a requirement for her adoption.

Steropes is spayed, vaccinated, microchipped, and parasite treated. If you are interested in adopting her please reach out to us!

Hello G.A.I.N. followers, unfortunately today we are coming with a request for help with a disappointing situation.

What we are asking is if anyone recognizes this cat. He is a young adult unneutered male. Our hope is that he was found and then abandoned here and that someone is actually missing him.

Sometime last night or early this morning someone left a cat at the G.A.I.N. building, taped up in a Chewy box. As much as we understand how desperate people can be, it is never okay to abandon an animal.

This cat was taped up in a box and if he had escaped he could have potentially been in serious danger in traffic, from predators, or even just starving to death because he's so scared and has never lived outside.

We will be installing cameras as of today. And in the future we will press charges for abandonment. This is not okay. We hope that they knew that we would be there this morning but we can't be sure. We are not at our building every day, and this could have potentially been a very dangerous situation for this cat.

If anyone recognizes this sweet guy please reach out to us so we can potentially find where he belongs!

Hello G.A.I.N. followers! We would like to take a minute and say thank you to some businesses in our community as well as our donors!

Every single donation to G.A.I.N. makes a difference for an animal in need in our community. It can be in so many different ways!

Donations are used to spay/neuter community pets, help put supplies into the food pantry when needed, TNR cats, purchase supplies for our foster program, and to help with veterinary costs to name a few things.

We also get donations of much needed items for our fosters. Cat and kitten food, litter, toys, and treats are always in demand! We are incredibly thankful for the spectacular people who send these much needed items.

Several businesses in our community have donation jars and help spread the word about what G.A.I.N. does!

Helman's Meat Market, Mackenzie's Party Store, and Queenie of Feeder’s Pet Supply of MTP all keep out a jar for people to donate as well as letting people know about the programs G.A.I.N. has available. Thank you to these wonderful businesses and the people who work there!

Hello G.A.I.N. followers! Today we want to tell you about a wonderful kitty named Odette.

Odette was being taken care of by an amazing woman who was feeding her colony. One day the woman noticed Odette was laying in the grass and not looking right. She felt she had been severely injured.

The lady reached out to G.A.I.N. and we were able to help with an appointment to get Odette seen. Dr. Kohler and staff at Blue Feather Wellness were amazing and got her in for an exam, followed by radiographs.

It was determined that Odette had a VERY severe fracture to her femur. She was also having some trouble going to the bathroom normally.

She was hospitalized to monitor her bathroom situation and put on intense pain management. It was determined her bladder was bruised but had not burst, so the next step was to deal with her leg.

Next we reached out to our outstanding veterinarian Dr. Quidort and her staff and they immediately helped us make a plan to get Odette there for surgery. Due to the nature and severity of her injury, amputation was the best course of action.

Odette did well during her surgery! Despite some minor complications afterwards (trouble learning to balance to go potty and lack of appetite) she is now doing great!

Odette will continue to heal from surgery, and be available for adoption when she is ready!

Hello G.A.I.N. followers! We had an absolutely amazing turnout to our adoption event yesterday! Every kitten we brought to Feeders was adopted, and we also had several adoptions over the past week!

Kiara, Di**le, Gizmo, Widget, Moonpie, Mario, Chaz, Sundae, Maximus and Ivy, Bing, and Google all found their homes this week.

We were blown away at the amount of applications we had for the event today. We would like to thank everyone for their patience and grace with us while we were trying to help everyone!

Hello G.A.I.N. followers! We have a bunch of amazing kittens that are available for adoption! We are going to share them in a few posts over the coming days.

First up are the kittens waiting at Feeders!

Kiara is a beautiful lighter tabby girl. She is 5 months old. Kiara is the most well behaved of her litter. She is named after a princess after all! She enjoys cuddles and loves squeezy treats! She is sweet and gentle, but also outgoing! Kiara has been around dogs and done well.

Widget is a stunning orange and white girl. She is super spunky once she feels comfortable with her surroundings. She takes time to evaluate her situation, and then she comes crashing in to start the party! She loves to play and tackle her siblings, but she also loves to be babied!

Gizmo is also a pretty deep orange and white girl. She and Widget are virtually twins! Gizmo is a very sweet and playful girl. She loves to be loved up! She can be a bit shy like her siblings but given a little while to figure things out she's ready to get those b***y scratches!

All of these kittens are spayed/neutered, age appropriately vaccinated, microchipped, and parasite treated.

Hello G.A.I.N. followers! It's been a few weeks since we posted our most recent adoptions so we're going to share them all! We have had 9 kitties adopted since the end of August!

Congratulations to Pickle, Nikko, Nuka, Austin, Poppi and Yahoo, Gadget, Grady, and Di**le! They've all found their Fur-Ever homes.

Thank you to everyone who adopted these wonderful cats and kittens! We love knowing they're loved, safe, and well cared for!
