MATTER We help people launch projects that improve communities. One of the biggest challenges we face today is the lack of access to health.

MATTER is a movement of people, companies, and organizations who believe they have the power to solve some of the world’s greatest challenges right in their own two hands. All humankind, regardless of race, income, religion, or s*x, can have the same access to a full and healthy life. It is only then that we can create a world where we all matter.

May was a month of action at MATTER!

From 7,500 Hope Packs packed and delivered by Treasure Island Resort & Casino volunteers, to growing career opportunities through MATTER Education, to Chaya taking root in schools in Zambia — each story points to the same truth:

Small acts can create lasting impact.

Meals packed.

Students prepared.

Nutrition planted.

This is what happens when people choose to show up.

Today is World Hunger Day, and we're sending off Chaya Project visionary, Sandi, and her crew on an Insight Trip to witness something extraordinary: a small plant creating massive change across Sub-Saharan Africa.

Years ago, Sandi visited a nutritional garden in Zimbabwe and saw what others missed: a humble plant called Chaya with the power to transform a nation's nutrition crisis. She didn't just see potential, she acted on it.

Chaya is high in protein, packed with vitamins, and thrives in harsh climates. Small leaves. Big mission...and it's being used to take on one of the world's most stubborn challenges, malnutrition. Not in decades, but in our lifetime. Today, that vision is becoming reality:

🌱 Chaya is feeding families across Zimbabwe
👩🏾‍🌾 Women at the Chaya Processing Center are turning leaves into livelihoods, proving that local ownership drives lasting change
🏫 Chaya is being planted at schools, with students and teachers trained on its care and uses
🍽️ It's becoming part of school feeding programs, nourishing the next generation.

This is what happens when a visionary sees the answer hiding in plain sight and refuses to look away.

Big things happen when passionate people come together! 🙌 We had the honor of hosting an incredible group from Institute for Healthcare Improvement - IHI . Together, they packed 2,000 Hope Packs, toured our facility, and got an inside look at what we do from our very own Joel. A huge thank you to IHI for making it such a special day, and to Jayda, Natalie, Bridget, and Joel for bringing it all to life. This is what impact looks like.

Recently, in St. Charles, Illinois, something special happened at Thompson Middle School.

Employees from Pathosans and GSF came together and packed hundreds of Hope Kits, each carrying one simple message: you matter.

This is what community looks like: people showing up, side by side, for something bigger than themselves. Special shoutout to Pathosans for making this event possible, that message reached even more hands and hearts.

We're so grateful for partners who don't just believe in the mission, they live it. 🙏

Meet Albertina ✨ When she finished high school, she wasn't sure what came next. Today, she's a full-time employee at Jamf and a proud graduate of the MATTER Career Readiness Institute. 🎓 From discovering her love of coding at an Innovation Hub at Jafuta Foundation to landing her dream job, Albertina's journey is proof that potential just needs the right opportunity. Congratulations Albertina, your smile says it all!

We're still smiling thinking about this one.

A huge thank you to Treasure Island Resort & Casino and their employee volunteers, who packed 7,500 Hope Kits during their Week of Impact...and got every single one delivered into the community that same day. 📦❤️

You matter. Your ideas and actions can change the world. Believe it. We do.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and mental health affects all of us. 1 in 5 people experience a mental health condition each year. Behind every statistic is a person. A neighbor, a friend, you.

Sometimes the smallest things carry the biggest message. A community garden. Feeding your neighbor. A loan that helps someone get back on their feet. A handwritten note tucked inside a MATTERbox. When you're struggling, being seen can change everything.

If you've been feeling invisible: you matter. If you've been carrying too much: you matter. If you haven't heard it in a while: you matter.

Mental health isn't just a clinical issue, it's a community one. Community care looks like a lot of things. Packing kits. Building parks. Teaching others skills. Showing up for strangers.

You are not alone. You are not forgotten. Mental health matters. You matter.

Every mother matters.

At the rural Binga District Hospital in Zimbabwe, nearly 200 mothers arrive each month waiting to give birth. Thanks to the incredible work of our friend (who over the past two years has helped bring Starlink connectivity, solar power, clean water, and critical supplies to this hospital) these mothers are being cared for in ways that go far beyond the delivery room.

On Rae's recent visit, mothers in waiting received baby kits filled with blankets, onesies, cloth diapers, soaps, and more (this is just one of the many things Rae and her crew did). Small things that mean everything when you're far from home, waiting for your baby to arrive.

Woven into all of it is something that started with a single planting and is already changing how this hospital nourishes its patients.

Over 400 chaya trees are now growing in the hospital's nutrition garden, planted to feed patients and the mothers who wait there every month. Chaya is a remarkable, nutrient-dense leafy green, and on this visit, Silent, MATTER's chaya champion, led a training with the mothers in waiting. Then, together, they prepared lunch using chaya they had grown themselves.

There is something so beautiful about that. Mothers nourishing each other. Knowledge being passed along. Food grown with intention, shared with care.

A heartfelt thank you to Rae, whose tireless work and deep love for the people of rural Zimbabwe make moments like these possible.

Happy Mother's Day to every mother waiting, every mother healing, and every woman who shows up to make sure others are taken care of. 🌿

Chaya Project Update! After sharing so many stories from Zimbabwe, we’re excited to now see the Chaya Project growing in Zambia as well. Our recent visit with the School Club Zambia (SCZ) team highlighted the incredible progress being made across participating schools.

During school visits, the team observed thriving chaya gardens, harvested leaves for upcoming trainings, and identified simple organic solutions to manage a small number of aphids. The following day, 23 teachers and farmers from 5 schools participated in a hands-on chaya training covering nutrition, planting, harvesting, cooking, and the many benefits of this climate-smart crop.

Participants prepared and tasted recipes including beef stew, chaya with crushed nuts, and chaya with tomato and onion, with many sharing how much they enjoyed the flavor and planned to add chaya to both home diets and school feeding programs.

With training materials now distributed to 6 schools in Zambia, the momentum continues to grow in Sub-Saharan Africa. Stay tuned for more updates as the Chaya Project expands its impact across Zimbabwe, Zambia and beyond!

During National Volunteer Month, 1,492 volunteers across 15 companies and 10 states showed up through MATTERbox Packing Events.

Because of them, 17,560 people were impacted.

That’s more than a number. It’s a child receiving a nourishing snack. A family feeling seen. A company choosing generosity and thousands of hands saying the same thing: you matter.

To every volunteer, every company, and every partner that joined us in April: thank you 🧡

Your time, energy and enthusiasm packed hope in a box, and each box’s impact can travel farther than we can imagine.

THANK YOU MINNEAPOLIS AND CHICAGO. You showed up, and that means the world to us.

Last week at Africa Stories Live!, we shared stories of a hand extended, a hand up, and a handshake. Of communities not waiting to be saved, but choosing to build. Of people who believe they matter.

And so do you. Your presence, your attention, and your belief in this work is part of the story too.
