Every mother matters.
At the rural Binga District Hospital in Zimbabwe, nearly 200 mothers arrive each month waiting to give birth. Thanks to the incredible work of our friend (who over the past two years has helped bring Starlink connectivity, solar power, clean water, and critical supplies to this hospital) these mothers are being cared for in ways that go far beyond the delivery room.
On Rae's recent visit, mothers in waiting received baby kits filled with blankets, onesies, cloth diapers, soaps, and more (this is just one of the many things Rae and her crew did). Small things that mean everything when you're far from home, waiting for your baby to arrive.
Woven into all of it is something that started with a single planting and is already changing how this hospital nourishes its patients.
Over 400 chaya trees are now growing in the hospital's nutrition garden, planted to feed patients and the mothers who wait there every month. Chaya is a remarkable, nutrient-dense leafy green, and on this visit, Silent, MATTER's chaya champion, led a training with the mothers in waiting. Then, together, they prepared lunch using chaya they had grown themselves.
There is something so beautiful about that. Mothers nourishing each other. Knowledge being passed along. Food grown with intention, shared with care.
A heartfelt thank you to Rae, whose tireless work and deep love for the people of rural Zimbabwe make moments like these possible.
Happy Mother's Day to every mother waiting, every mother healing, and every woman who shows up to make sure others are taken care of. 🌿
