Today, Deanna Greene, Las Vegas Area Council Commissioner, was interviewed about an important new initiative supporting those who serve our country.

Effective immediately, Scouting America will waive the $85 national youth registration fee for eligible military families who register online. This change helps reduce barriers and ensures more youth in military households can experience the adventure, leadership, and lifelong values of Scouting.

The end of the school year and start of summer is a BUSY time of year. Not too busy for a few Scouts to spend the weekend at the Michigan International Speedway for a weekend full of racing!

It's almost summer, which means LOTS of time camping. Beware widow makers...and other hazards while camping.

Remember everyone, tree’s are NOT a great place to shelter during a thunderstorm. Residents outside in downtown Hillsdale on Saturday were very lucky to be alive, as lightning struck a nearby tree, causing it to splinter into many pieces, some of which became embedded into the ground. Photo comes from our Facebook community page titled “Michigan Storm Community”, relayed by Tammie H from Dave. We are glad everyone was reported as okay!

Our troop recently updated our Scout and Adult Guidebook, which includes all of the junior leadership positions Scouts can hold. Developing strong junior leaders is a key component of our program, and we encourage scouts to take active roles in the Troop as a leader for their peers.

Positions of Responsibility

Empowering youth to be leaders is one of the core principles in Scouting. Scouting is designed to help youth prepare to participate in, and give leadership to, their communities. Within the safety framework provided by the adult leaders, and with the Scoutmaster’s direction and mentoring, the Scouts plan and implement the Troop program. Scouts serve in positions of responsibility to make that happen.

Over the next couple weeks, we will be exploring these positions of responsibilty - what they are, what they mean, and how you can implement them in your Troop.

You can find more information about positions of responsibility on the Troop Leader Resources website: https://troopleader.scouting.org/general-troop-information/troop-structure/troop-positions/
