A St. Joseph native, retiring from the U.S. Navy, is bringing a two‑seat F/A‑18 Hornet to town — could be a Rhino or a Growler 👀.

📅 Friday 3–5 PM: Arrival + ground/cockpit tours
📅 Saturday 1:15–2:15 PM: Flight over St. Joseph with touch‑and‑go landings
📅 Saturday 2:30–5:30 PM: Ground/cockpit tours resume

Have a look at Tom Morris’s Howard DGA-15P! This aircraft type is a staple in the vintage aviation community, but Tom's aircraft has unique ties to WWII.

It was built for the Navy as a GH-2 air ambulance, serving as a vital transport during the war.

On this date in 1912 – Albert Berry makes the first parachute jump from an airplane at Jefferson Barracks, Missouri.

Berry jumped from a Benoist pusher biplane from 1,500 feet (457 m) and landed successfully. The pilot was Tony Jannus. The 36 foot (11 m) diameter parachute was contained in a metal canister attached to the underside of the plane – when Berry dropped from the plane his weight pulled the parachute from the canister. Rather than being attached to the parachute by a harness Berry was seated on a trapeze bar.

According to Berry he dropped 500 feet (152 m) before the parachute opened.

The reason for its long wings is to allow pilots to register the aircraft as a motor glider, opening up a whole new way to fly.
