Residents will have the opportunity to interact with representatives from the St. Joseph police and fire departments, as well as other local public safety agencies, at a special event from 5:30 to 8pm on Tuesday, August 5, in Civic Center Park, located in front of City Hall.
The National Night Out event is an opportunity to build understanding and partnerships between community members and law enforcement. Saint Joseph, Missouri Police Department, Saint Joseph, Missouri Fire Department, Buchanan County Missouri Sheriff, Buchanan County EMS, Missouri State Highway Patrol, Missouri Dept. of Conservation, DeKalb County Sheriff's Department, Andrew County Sheriff's Office, Savannah Missouri Police Department and Missouri Western Law Enforcement Academy all will have representatives on hand.
The St. Joseph Police Department is bringing drones, SWAT robots, rams, ballistic shields and its armored vehicle for the Special Response Team for the public to check out. Other departments also will be bringing their vehicles and equipment.
Community organizations, including the St. Joseph Safety & Health Council, Youth Alliance, American Red Cross, St. Joseph Goats Arena Football, Missouri American Water and some neighborhood watch groups, will participate in the event as well.
Local teen band Arsonists Band Official will perform from 5:30-6:30pm and again from 7-8pm.
Target is providing free hot dogs, chips and drinks during the event. The Sack’s Ice Cream Truck will be in the park, and the first $500 of ice cream has been sponsored by City Star Gas Station. Walmart is sponsoring two bounce houses for kids, and Club Fun will be providing co****le boards for visitors to enjoy.
