NW Missouri Longtails Pheasants Forever Chapter 707

NW Missouri Longtails Pheasants Forever Chapter 707 The leading upland wildlife habitat conservation group. "The Habitat Organization" www.pheasantsforever.org

At the heart of Pheasants Forever and Quail Forever is the unique grassroots system of fundraising and project development that allows members to see the direct result of their contributions. PF and QF empower county chapters with the responsibility to determine how 100% of their locally raised conservation funds will be spent - the only national conservation organization that operates through thi

s truly grassroots structure. As a result, chapter volunteers are able to see the fruits of their efforts locally, while belonging to a larger national organization with a voice on federal and state conservation policy.

It's Dormant season burn time! The weather can be very finicky this time of year but when the window of opportunity of high humidity and low wind opens up, IT'S TIME TO GO! Make sure you have good fire lanes established first. "Dirt doesn't burn".

A couple times a year, we send out an e-mail to all of the P/F and Q/F members in our 6 county service area and others who we have valid e-mail addresses on from attending some of our activities. Any time you give us an e-mail address, we DO NOT share it with the Nat'l office so you don't get bombarded with national ads and spam. Today I sent out an e-mail invite and flyer to our Chapters upcoming Field day event. I received several back as undeliverable. If you did not receive that e-mail and flyer, it means we don't have a valid e-mail on file for you. If you want to receive the chapters upcoming event notices please send me a valid e-mail at [email protected] We don't want to leave anyone out. Thank you.

I am hearing from some folks that the QR code on the original flyer that we posted here may not be working. Hopefully the code on this updated flyer has solved that problem. You can always e-mail me at the address on the flyer or text me at the phone number provided. As of 3/16, we still have some openings available for this free learning event. Hope to see you on April 4th.

First off, I want to apologize for the long tedious process and wait at the front door to get in to our banquet last Saturday night. We were working with a new P/F Nat'l check in system and to say the least, there are a few bugs to get worked out of it for the unique ways that we set up and run our banquet.
Thank you everyone for coming out and making our 11th Annual banquet a huge success. Dale Buhman of Whitsell & Buhman Auctioneering donates his time and services to us each year, and I think he did an absolute fantastic job this year with the live auction.
Bill Lyon of Lyon Gunsmithing donates all of his services as our FFL dealer each year, and hopefully, you will be one of the lucky 16 gun winners who will be visiting his shop soon to pick up you new tool.
Once again, Mr. Ed hopkins of Jameson machine Shop here in St. joe donated a 20 gauge shotgun for our free youth gun giveaway. 8 yo Remy Delaney was the lucky winner this year.
Also, congratulations to Liam Ostendorf and Whitney Delaney, who were the winners of the 2 free MDC lifetime hunting and fishing license giveaways this year. (By my count, that is 18 lifetime license that our chapter has given away now).
Our expenses were up 46% thisyear, but thanks to all you good folks, our net revenue was up 67% this year over last year.
We are really looking forward to sponsoring more youth outdoor activities this year and helping many more folks with being good land stewards and improving the wildlife habitat on their properties.
Watch here for more updates coming soon. Right now there is a tentative first ever habitat demonstration/ tour on April 4th at the 439 farm in Wathena, Ks. and our annual free fishing event at the Butcher lake is scheduled for Saturday May 30th.

Occasionally I get asked about this, hopefully this will clarify for a few folks.

A few pictures from our Chapters annual sponsor appreciation hunt held on Sunday Jan 4, 2026 at Harding Gamebird farm in Ridgeway, Mo. The weather was perfect, and the birds flew real good .The Harding family are excellent host and have a wonderful facility. It was all capped off with everyone getting a belly full of Kim and Neil's famous chili after all the birds were cleaned.
If you want to join in on the fun next year, come help support our Habitat and youth outdoors mission at our 11th annual banquet coming up in St. Joe Mo on Feb. 7, 2026.

It is almost that time again! Mark your calendars for Saturday Feb. 7th.

“This week in quail country”
If food supplies and weather conditions are favorable, barn owls will nest at least twice a year in Missouri.
Fifty-five days after hatching, barn owls are strong enough to fly.
Bobwhite quail chicks should be hatching out now. Research has shown that hens may lay a clutch and a male may incubate and brood that clutch while the hens goes and makes another nest and incubates and broods that clutch. Weather permitting and habitat conditions good, the hen may complete this cycle twice for a total contribution of 4 clutches per year
June 20th = First day of summer/solstice: longest daylight day of the year.
Triclopyr herbicide (Remedy) is also a good chemical to use to rid your land of multiflora rose .
Tickseed coreopsis blooms now through early July. The mature seeds resemble ticks, but quail eat them anyway.
“To those devoid of imagination a blank place on the map is useless waste; to others, the most valuable part.” Aldo Leopold
