Just a heads up, as part of our maintenance plan for the Monarch Waystation, the City of St Joseph will be mowing the bluff in the next few weeks. Rest assured, even though it might look pretty devastating, this work is important for the health of this habitat.
We have worked closely with city officials to ensure that the mowing is done after the migratory Monarchs have departed the area. The mowing is done to help control woody growth which is detrimental to pollinator habitat.
We will be looking for a few volunteers that are comfortable with working on the hill to treat the cut stumps after the mowing is completed.
