So when I was decorating the exterior of the Chamber building, I wanted to honor a longstanding Chamber member, director, board officer and just-about-every-Chamber-role-you-can-imagine, Kay Hauser who has been a central part of the Chamber for decades. Last year, she told me her absolute very favorite thing in life is the American flag. She loves US Flags, any size, any style, anywhere. So when it came spring time in this special American birthday year, I opted to "plant" US flags in the outdoor flower pots for her instead of geraniums.
My challenge has been keeping them illuminated at night, per US Flag protocol and etiquette. I found some great disc lights (operated by remote, even!) with two different light settings, warm light and bright bluish white for about 50Β’ each and put them in there. I neglected to take into consideration that rain, sprinklers, etc. would pool in those planters and...yes...ultimately wiped out the disc lights. I thought about ziploc bags or something but, if you e ever filled one of those with ice to use on a sprain or headache, you know they aren't always watertight.
So I got an idea (and eight more disc lights). The last time I used my food sealer was about two years ago when I sealed up a quarter cow and 50 lbs. of Hatch green chiles. I swore I'd never operate that sealer again after all that. UNTIL I realized they'd make a nice sealed pouch for the disc lights to withstand any moisture that comes their way. So out came the food sealer and I had just barely enough plastic yet to fit eight of them. When it comes to me doing a project, if "Necessity is the mother of invention", stubbornness is its Father π
