HAPPY 100TH BIRTHDAY, WINNIE-THE-POOH!

Oh, bother! Can you believe our favorite silly old bear is turning 100 years old today?!

For a century, Winnie-the-Pooh has reminded us that the best adventures are found in the pages of a good book, the sweetest things in life are often the simplest, and a little kindness goes a long way.

To celebrate this very special birthday, we've gathered a collection of Winnie-the-Pooh books in our children's section! Stop by, revisit an old favorite, introduce a little one to the Hundred Acre Wood, or discover a Pooh story you haven't read before.

After all, you're never too old for a little Pooh bear wisdom, a pot of honey, and a whole lot of friendship!

"Sometimes the smallest things take up the most room in your heart."

The Cover to Cover Book Club is reading The Four Winds by Kristin Hannah this month. We will meet on Nov. 2nd at 10:00am to discuss the book. Anyone is welcome to join us. We have several books still available for check out.

Texas, 1921. A time of abundance. The Great War is over, the bounty of the land is plentiful, and America is on the brink of a new and optimistic era. But for Elsa Wolcott, deemed too old to marry in a time when marriage is a woman’s only option, the future seems bleak. Until the night she meets Rafe Martinelli and decides to change the direction of her life. With her reputation in ruin, there is only one respectable choice: marriage to a man she barely knows.

By 1934, the world has changed; millions are out of work and drought has devastated the Great Plains. Farmers are fighting to keep their land and their livelihoods as crops fail and water dries up and the earth cracks open. Dust storms roll relentlessly across the plains. Everything on the Martinelli farm is dying, including Elsa’s tenuous marriage; each day is a desperate battle against nature and a fight to keep her children alive.

In this uncertain and perilous time, Elsa―like so many of her neighbors―must make an agonizing choice: fight for the land she loves or leave it behind and go west, to California, in search of a better life for her family.

The Four Winds is a rich, sweeping novel that stunningly brings to life the Great Depression and the people who lived through it―the harsh realities that divided us as a nation and the enduring battle between the haves and the have-nots. A testament to hope, resilience, and the strength of the human spirit to survive adversity, The Four Winds is an indelible portrait of America and the American dream, as seen through the eyes of one indomitable woman whose courage and sacrifice will come to define a generation.

Meet Our First Sunshine Reader of the Month!
We are so excited to introduce Parker, our very first Sunshine Reader of the Month!

Parker received a special certificate and got to sit in our Sunshine Reader chair during library class. He comes to the library ready to listen, learn, and participate. He is quiet, polite, and always willing to lend a helping hand to those around him. He is truly a delight to have in the library!

Congratulations, Parker! We are so proud of you and the positive sunshine you bring to our library each week!

A Little Sunshine for You!

This week in our library classes, we read Ordinary Mary’s Extraordinary Deed by Emily Pearson. A wonderful story that reminds us that one small act of kindness can start something much bigger. When we do something nice for someone, they may pass that kindness along to someone else, and before we know it, kindness has multiplied!

After reading the story, our students had a chance to put the lesson into action. Each student filled out little cards that said “A Little Sunshine for You” and then shared them with someone else.

Hopefully, someone seeing this post was the lucky recipient of one of those little sunshine cards! I was!

The students absolutely loved this project—so much so that most of them wanted to make more than just one or two cards! It was so much fun watching them think about who they could brighten up with a simple act of kindness.

Sometimes it only takes a little sunshine to make someone's day a whole lot brighter.
