Sole Hope is helping change lives every day! Here is one example. I am super excited about the Self Help Group-Economic Empowerment Program that Sole Hope has started with some motivated women! These groups comprise women who come together to save money, learn new skills, and support each other.
In the past 10 months, one Self-Help Group has saved over $800! This money has allowed women to improve their lives in several ways. For example, they have been able to:
✔️Pay for school fees for their children
✔️Start small businesses
✔️Buy soap and other hygiene products
✔️Get rid of jiggers, a debilitating parasite that causes serious health problems and social stigma.
The Self-Help Groups are not only helping the women financially, but they are also building community and providing a safe space for women to share their experiences. The groups meet weekly to discuss jigger prevention, hygiene, and positive parenting.
There are 3 padlocks on the chest with 3 different women knowing the code.

Just because a problem is complex doesn’t mean the solution has to be.
Wearing shoes.
Washing feet daily.
Treating jiggers before they get old enough to lay eggs.

If a person takes any of these simple steps, their life will be radically different. They won’t suffer from the pain and shame of jiggers. We teach this every day and provide our patients with the tools to make it happen. And it works!

We won't stop until there are

Do you know?
Shoes. Most of us take them for granted. They have been placed on our feet since before we could walk, and they are a given part of our routines before leaving the house for the day. After all "No shoes, no shirt, no service." Shoes are a fashion and status symbol for many, and the place they play in society is apparent, but they are much more than that.
In Uganda and majority world countries, many people fall victim to diseases contracted and transmitted due to bare feet and shoes not being available because of economic circumstances. .
Shoes play a vital role to help protect against parasites such a jiggers, cuts, contaminated soil that leads to infection opens the door for diseases, amputation, or worse.

・・・
Can you imagine that something so tiny, slightly bigger than a pinhead, could cause you so much pain that you wouldn’t be able to walk? This is the reality for thousands in underserved Ugandan communities. Jiggers are small parasitic fleas found in soil that burrow into people’s feet and lay eggs. They cause debilitating pain &, if left untreated, can disable people permanently.

But they are easily prevented by wearing protective shoes & using correct . A gift of $20 can provide freedom from jiggers for 8 people. They receive jigger treatment, follow-up education, and shoes.

Why we need the Hope Center to stay open: The Hope Center, which opened in January 2019, has been instrumental in expanding Sole Hope’s capacity to care for those with more critical cases of jiggers, through these efforts, Sole Hope impacted the lives of over 23,800 people in 2021.
Please give now to our end-of-the-year campaign through the link in our bio.
