We had a wonderful time this evening learning all about turkeys! We were all able to make our own turkey calls too! On our walk, we watched hundreds of vultures kettling, observed an eagle fly over with a fish in its beak, and called a sassy red-bellied woodpecker out. Getting the young birders out into nature and learning about our feathered friends is so much fun 😊

Thanks to Arts Rolla for creating wonderful projects for our meeting yesterday! The original images inspired our birding artist’s creativity and we saw some fun and unique works. Scratch art and collages inspired by our feathered friends! The arts and birding can help bring communities together 😊

Our feathered friends are tending to their nests everywhere right now. What have you observed?

Bird nests are hidden gems - literally! Birds do their best to hide their nests from predators, so it can often take some skill and patience for humans to find a bird’s nest. One of the best ways to find a nest near you is to keep an eye out for birds that are carrying nesting material, like this Mountain Chickadee. Watch them through binoculars, and see if they’re returning to the same spot over and over - they’re probably building a nest!

If you're interested in finding nesting birds this spring, be sure to check out our top tips: https://www.allaboutbirds.org/news/top-three-signs-that-birds-are-nesting-near-you/
