A FULL house last night! (7/15th/2026) Preservation Head of The Harbor held it’s inaugural “Opening Night” at Village Hall of its semiquincentennial exhibit, called “Three Sisters, Landscapes of the Head of The Harbor” featuring guest speaker Vivian Nicholson-Mueller, the co-author of The Art of William Sidney Mount: Long Island People of Color on Canvas.
Vivian talked about her genealogical journey into lives of her Black, Mixed-Race, Native, and White ancestors in pre-colonial, colonial, and post-colonial Long Island, in particular those who were depicted in the mid 19th century paintings by William Sidney Mount and his brother Shepard Anolzo Mount.
During the reception, guests and visitors enjoyed the delectable array of finger foods created by Farm To Table Catering, featuring ancient recipes containing corn, beans and squash ….. comprising the “three sisters” that the original inhabitants planted, also on hand were “Aunt Alida’s" famed ice tea & Shoreline Mead’s crafted “honey wine”.
After the talk Vivian graciously chatted with the assembled and signed many copies of the book she co-authored with Katherine Kirkpatrick, for their new fans.
