Sassy Stitchers Give New Life to Recycled Denim at St. James Senior Center
Monthly sewing group turns old jeans into useful tote bags while building creativity, friendship, and community connection.

The Sassy Stitchers at the St. James Senior Center recently completed their latest creative project, transforming old jeans into practical tote bags and giving recycled materials a fresh new purpose.
The project highlighted the group’s emphasis on creativity, resourcefulness, and fellowship. By using recycled denim, members were able to create one-of-a-kind tote bags while sharing ideas, learning from one another, and enjoying time together.
The Sassy Stitchers meet on the first Tuesday of every month at the Senior Center. The group welcomes those who enjoy sewing, crafting, or simply spending time with others in a friendly and encouraging setting.
Beginning in January 2027, the Senior Center will offer an Introductory Sassy Stitchers Class for anyone interested in learning basic sewing skills. The class is designed to help new participants gain confidence, meet fellow community members, and discover the enjoyment of creating handmade projects.
The Senior Center encourages community members to come together, make new friends, and take part in programs that support creativity, connection, and lifelong learning.

ST. JAMES, Mo. — The St. James Senior Center’s Birthday Lunch continues to be a popular monthly gathering, bringing neighbors together for good food, live music, and community celebration.
Guests enjoyed a hearty meal of fried chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, dessert, a drink, and a cup of salad for just $7 for those age 55 and older and $10 for guests under 55. The event also featured entertainment from the local River Dawgs band, whose upbeat music had attendees ready to get up and dance.
