I am so proud of our blind Ducky. She was so reactive and fearful, unknowing who to trust after being past around and thrown into the pipeline. She also had strangles earlier this year as well as some neurological issues and abscess that she recently fully recovered from! I haven’t trained her in a while due to her medical conditions. It’s been about a month (maybe a little more) and today she was wanting to join me in the roundpen after working out little Cedar. Her willingness and built of trust shines bright through these photos. Sure I have the trust in her but it’s not about that, it’s about earning a huge part of a horse that isn’t always willing to give. I’m so proud of you Ducky 🥹🥹🥹😭🥹🥰🙌🏼 thank God for the wisdom, knowledge, and strength to work with such incredible creatures!!!

What a blessing for our blind horses! First off, thank you Statelinetack and Equinavia for such a blessing, also thank you all who had pushed so hard to vote for us and being a huge part of this blessing as well!

Now what…? Well, I have not put myself in a pair of breaches since my 4H days in Junior High 😅 May this become entertainment for y’all and to bless our blind horses even more through this journey of expanding my horizons in a new discipline! I have already met with an amazing instructor and I have my first lesson in dressage this weekend! I have had it on my heart to dip my toes in the English world but avoided discomfort, so this was that push to step out of my comfort zone (which is all western)! After all God does not call us to stay comfortable! So sit back, grab some popcorn…this will be fun in the most humorous way!

Day 1 halter training Cedar, our little born blind c**t. He came to us unexpected and unhandled. Many had said to be patient and give him a buddy. With having blind horses for 15 yrs and training c**ts, partly I agree and disagree. I have found that if they aren’t trained with a halter, their safety is more at risk, as is mine. Why do I say that, say he gets himself in a bind and we can’t halter him because he doesn’t know, or if we had to take him to the vet in emergency or move him out of the arena, or if he gets bigger and can outpower me (he’s already so strong)… its important for him to know whether he fully trusts me or not. Now as a buddy goes, If he was to imprint on another horse or animal before me, it would make it more difficult to train and or catch him and get him to imprint on me. Oh and I do not use bells as I want him to become independent and confident with his other senses without one. Sure, too much pressure is not good, but so is not enough, there’s a balance. Once I have his full trust and attention and am able to halter him with no problem, the rest will be smooth sailing! He is already learning to accept me and the halter quick. He has no interest in treats or grain, so affection and release of pressure is what we praise with and it seems to work well with him. Usually I do things 3 times successfully and that’s the end of his training, not too much but just enough for him to think about it and start again tomorrow!

Our blind Ducky was feelin’ her oats this mornin’! She’s doing way WAY better, still working on her balance, the ataxia going away day by day, but she’s so much more her playful self again 🤗

I think It’s about time for me to cave in on a new phone 😅 the camera is about shot on this thing, don’t mind the glare of light!
