Our sweet boy, Daddy, is grazing and enjoying the golden hour with our best volunteers by his side.

In quiet moments like this, the reality of our work becomes clear. It’s hard not to wonder where Daddy would be if he weren’t here at Sunrise Horse Rescue.

For now, we soak up these quiet moments… filled with warm light, connection, and horsey kisses.

A couple of weeks ago, we gathered All The Kings Horses , home to our Barn Manager, Erin King, for our 'Level-Up Horsemanship' training!

The Level-Up Horsemanship sessions aim to empower volunteers by providing the hands-on experience needed to succeed in their daily volunteer work.

We received incredible feedback on how powerful these sessions were for all who participated.

Meet our newest member: Frankie!

In our years of experience, we have found that not all rescue horses have the same story. This is why our Horse in Need committee is so crucial.

This committee works overtime to ensure that horses like Frankie always have the safety net they desperately need.

People often find it shocking that the horse-slaughter pipeline exists. This is exactly why Sunrise Horse Rescue was founded more than 19 years ago...to serve as a safety net for horses in need.

A common question we receive is how horses end up in the slaughter pipeline. Education on the horse slaughter pipeline is extensive, but we put together an introduction to it.

Here is how you can help:

🐴 Educate yourself, ask questions, no question is silly! The more we know, the more we can advocate for these sweet beings.

🐴Share this post. Sharing is caring! The more we can help others learn, the larger impact we can have on shutting down the pipeline.

Right now, thousands of horses are trapped in a heartbreaking bottleneck.

Because of a New World Screwworm-related border closure, the slaughter pipeline to Mexico has ground to a halt. While kill buyers wait for the border to reopen, horses are being held in horrific conditions.

This temporary bottleneck gives us a short, critical window to change their fate, and we are stepping up.

Sunrise Horse Rescue and Jameson Animal Rescue Ranch are proudly teaming up to support All Seated in a Barn in an urgent rescue to pull these horses out of the pipeline now.

How you can help:

🐴Ask questions! Learn more about the horse slaughter pipeline and what happens when a horse is vulnerable to ending up there.

🐴Share this post: Don’t look away. Help us spread awareness and protect these horses before the border reopens.

Two weeks ago we welcomed in “Second Chance” to the SHR herd. Chance is a 25 year old Bay Arabian gelding. He is currently at our sanctuary in Calistoga and settling in nicely!
