Great news: H.U.G.S. continues to grow!
Less great news: so are our expenses.
(Who knew helping with an orphanage in Peru came with receipts longer than a CVS printout?)
As our organization grows, we’re working hard to support more kids in Peru. But to keep up the momentum - and to avoid stress-eating too many snacks — we could really use your help.
Here’s how you can save the day (cape optional):

Fundraising - H.U.G.S. will be having a garage sale this Saturday and Sunday December 20th and 21st 2025 starting at 8:00 am.

In 2022, Helping Underprivileged Groups Succeed (HUGS) was born from two friends with big hearts and one purpose — to bring love, hope, and helping hands to children in need. That same year, our first volunteer team landed in Peru and met hundreds of kids whose smiles changed everything.

📍Today, we begin our SIXTH humanitarian trip to Peru.

None of this would be possible without the people who make HUGS what it is.

🤍 To our donors: your giving hearts feed, clothe, and lift children every single day.

💛 To our volunteers: your time and love build a legacy of hope.

❤️ To the people of Peru: your courage and kindness remind us what true family feels like.

Thank you for believing in love that crosses borders.

Thank you for helping us keep showing up.

🎉 Here’s to Trip #6 — more hugs, more hearts, more hope. 🇵🇪✨

💫 How YOU can make a difference:
• Follow our journey and share our story
• Repost to spread awareness for kids in need
• Donate to support our next project
• Join us on a future volunteer trip

Friday is always the hardest day at the orphanag, with so many mixed emotions. The weight of unfinished projects and the impending departure adds a layer of stress to the atmosphere. However, amidst the busyness and chaos, there is a sense of accomplishment.

This week, our focus was on the chapel, a space that holds great significance for the community. When we were here in October, we installed a new roof and began working on the ceiling grid. With dedication and hard work, we were able to place the final tile on Friday, bringing us one step closer to completing the project. The only thing left is the installation of the audio, which will be done in time for the Easter service.

In addition to our work on the chapel, we also worked on two painting projects. One of which was a newly completed staircase that we painted white and light blue.

Saying goodbye to the children who have touched our hearts gets harder everytime. These moments serve as a powerful reminder of the impact we have made and the memories we will carry with us. Until next time, Sagrada Familia, you are always in our hearts.

We arrived yesterday to start our service project. The director took us on a tour and our volunteers were surprised by the size of the community, it sits on about three acres and has a little store, church, library, soccer field, kitchen that cooks for 1200 a day, dorms for the kids, classrooms for school and a community medical clinic.
We've been tasked with repainting a lot of building, it's probably a months worth it work, but we will do what we can and know that when we return there will still be plenty of work to do.

After the children got out of school we were able to teach them to play Spikeball. They love volleyball so they picked it up quickly.

While some kids continued playing
Spikeball, we started a soccer game with other kids. It's unbelievable how good these kids are when they are playing in slides and flip flops.

This is only the first day and we are excited to see how they love all of the other activities we brought them. We know that one person can make a difference in someone's life.

On Wednesday, we will be buying food for the community. If you would like to donate, the link is in our bio.

48 hours in and we are having a great time! This morning we toured Huaca Pucllana and learned about the pyramid and its inhabitants history.
Our next stop was the famous Inka Market for a bit of shopping.
For lunch we ate at Astrid and Gaston, which was ranked as one of the 50 best restaurant in Latin America.
This afternoon we headed closer to our humanitarian destination. The 1.5 hour trip is an adventure all on its own. Videos don't do the traffic justice, it's crazy out there.
We ended the night by having dinner with the Director of the orphanage/school. We were able to listen to the story of how Sagrada Familia came to be. We are so lucky to be a very small part of Sagrada Familia's story.

The first 24 hours in Peru are compete! We love playing tourist for the first few days. Last night we ate at Tanta in Larcomar and ended the night with churros. Today we visited the San Franciscana Catacombs, ate at the Fiesta, took a bike ride on the Malecon, went to Barranco to watch the sunset and finished with dinner at Isolina.
