Expanding Access to Dental Care for Maine Veterans!

We’re proud to share that the Maine Veterans’ Dental Network will continue serving veterans across the state thanks to a generous grant from Northeast Delta Dental. This important program helps veterans who don’t have dental insurance or can’t afford care access essential oral health services at participating clinics statewide.

Through partnerships with nonprofit dental clinics, Federally Qualified Health Centers, and dental teaching schools, the Network provides care on a first-come, first-served basis while funding lasts. Since its launch, the program has connected hundreds of veterans with dental services they otherwise might not have received.

The Maine Bureau of Veterans’ Services is honored to help administer this program and support Maine’s veterans in achieving better overall health and well-being.

Veterans may apply to the Maine Veterans' Dental Network by completing an online application at https://tinyurl.com/4hmwfxxm, by calling 207-287-6836, or by emailing [email protected].

Veterans who have previously participated in the program may reapply to be eligible for 2026 grant funding.

As of May 30, 2025, certain veterans qualify for an excise tax exemption for up to three vehicles in which their name appears on the vehicle title.

Under 36 M.R.S. § 1483(12), veterans who are otherwise eligible for the exemption are authorized regardless of whether they have a disabled veteran’s plate. It is important to note that a veteran must pay the regular associated registration fee if they choose a different registration plate. However, the excise tax exemption is authorized if they meet the eligibility requirements.

Please note, it can be confusing when determining eligibility. For instance, it is possible for a veteran to be rated at 70% for service-connected disabilities but, due to Individual Unemployability, be paid at 100% and considered 100% permanently and totally disabled. Department of Veterans Affairs Benefits Summary letters can be difficult to understand and are not clearly written.

MBVS can assist in determining eligibility for motor vehicle excise tax exemption for certain veterans, specifically helping understand service-connected disability rating as outlined in 36 M.R.S. § 1483(12). This would require the veteran to provide proof of “total, service-connected disability” in the form of a current Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Benefit Summary letter.

Benefits Summary are provided to the veteran in the springtime by the VA or at any time from www.ebenefits.va.gov or by calling 800-827-1000. MBVS may also have access to the Benefits Summary letter for certain veterans.

🇺🇸Today we honor those who left the comforts of home, often for the first time, to answer the call of military service. Those whose minds and bodies would be tested like never before and changed forever. In honor of Veterans Day, please take a moment to reflect on the sacrifices made by all veterans who answered the call of service to our nation.🇺🇸

Our American Legion post is proud to announce that we have assumed responsibility for the American flags which are displayed roadside throughout the town of St. Francis. I would like to take this moment to thank the Friends of St. Francis for all of their hard work raising funds and putting in the time and effort to get us to where we are today with over 185+ flags flying from one end of town to the other.
With that being said, the hard work of raising funds and maintaining our flags cannot continue without the support of our local community. Bottle donations are still welcome and can be dropped off at the bottle shed in front of the town office. Later on over the next day or so I will also be sharing some information regarding our Legion raffle fundraiser where part of those proceeds will also go towards maintaing our flag program.
