Last Friday, our community gathered for a powerful and joyful Iftar — and what a beautiful evening it was.

In a time when many families have carried stress and uncertainty, our 2026 CommUnity Iftar reminded us of something powerful: when we come together, we restore one another’s strength. Compassion becomes real. Belonging becomes visible. Hope feels possible again.

We are deeply grateful to everyone who joined us, volunteered, prepared food, and helped create such a welcoming space. Your presence made the evening meaningful and reminded us why community matters so deeply.

Yesterday, a federal judge in Minnesota ordered the government to stop arresting and detaining refugees simply because they are waiting for their green cards. Refugees who entered the United States legally remain protected.

Over the past months, many families have lived with fear. Parents were afraid to leave home. Workers worried about going to their jobs. Some were detained despite having lawful refugee status. This ruling is an important step toward restoring safety and stability while the case continues in court.

At CAIRO, we have stood with families during this difficult time — providing support, guidance, and advocacy. We are grateful to the leaders and community members who have stood with us.

The case is ongoing, but yesterday brought relief.

We are closely monitoring today’s federal court hearing in Minneapolis concerning the detention of legally admitted refugees in Minnesota.

This case challenges recent federal actions that have resulted in the arrest and detention of refugees who followed the law and are living and working legally in our communities while awaiting permanent residency.

We have worked directly with hundreds of affected refugee families. We have supported parents and children taken from the streets and helped return more than a dozen Minnesota residents who were wrongfully transferred to Texas despite having lawful refugee status. These actions have created real fear and uncertainty for families across our state.

The hearing will take place today at 2:00 PM at the United States District Court in Minneapolis, Courtroom 14E. Community members who are able are encouraged to respectfully show up in support.

Today’s hearing will help determine whether critical protections remain in place for thousands of refugee families in Minnesota.

We stand with our community and will continue to advocate for dignity, fairness, and justice for all.

In difficult times, gathering becomes a necessity. Over the past months, our community has faced challenges that tested us. We have endured uncertainty, disruption, and moments meant to silence us. But Ramadan reminds us who we are. We are a people of faith. Of resilience. Of togetherness.

We warmly invite you to join us for our Annual CommUnity Iftar on February 27, 2026 at 5:00 PM at the Kalsan Events Center in Midtown Square Mall.

Today, we begin again.

Our previous page was hacked and removed. It was more than a page to us. It held years of stories, community moments, celebrations, advocacy, and the lived experiences of the families we walk alongside every day.

We have been digitally attacked because of the work we do. Because we choose to stand up. Because we choose to be here. Because we refuse to be silent when our families are targeted or when injustice becomes normalized.

But if there is one thing our community has taught us, it is this: we do not disappear when challenged. We rebuild.

CAIRO was not built on a social media platform. It was built on trust, relationships, courage, and the unwavering belief that immigrant, refugee, and underserved families deserve dignity and opportunity. A hacked page cannot erase that.

We are asking you — our partners, families, friends, and supporters — to follow, share, and help us rebuild our new page.
