The members of the chapter helped Worthy Matron Megan Pierce take Adam's DeMolay t-shirts and turned it into a quilt. They presented it to Adam as a gift honoring his year.

When learning about the Order of the Eastern Star, many people ask:

What’s the difference between a Chapter Officer and a Grand Officer — and why is it called “Grand Chapter”?

At Sunshine Chapter #98 Order of the Eastern Star, our Chapter Officers serve at the local level. These are the members elected or appointed within our chapter to lead meetings, organize charitable efforts, support members, and ensure everything runs smoothly. Offices such as Worthy Matron, Worthy Patron, Secretary, Treasurer, Conductress, and others are positions of trust and leadership within the chapter.

Chapter Officers focus on serving our local members and the St. Charles community. They are the hands-on leaders who guide our chapter’s activities and help members grow in confidence, public speaking, organization, and service.

So what makes something “Grand”?

The word “Grand” in fraternal organizations refers to the governing body over multiple local chapters within a state (or jurisdiction). The Grand Chapter oversees all the subordinate chapters, helping maintain unity, consistency, and tradition throughout the Order.

A Grand Officer is a member who serves at this statewide level. These officers are elected or appointed to represent and support all chapters in the jurisdiction. They often travel to local chapters, provide guidance, promote charitable initiatives, and help strengthen the bonds between chapters.

In simple terms:
🔹 Chapter = Local leadership.
🔹 Grand Chapter = Statewide leadership.
🔹 Chapter Officer = Serves one chapter.
🔹 Grand Officer = Serves all chapters in the jurisdiction.

The title “Grand” reflects the broader scope of responsibility — not rank in importance, but the wider area of service.

Both roles require dedication, integrity, and a heart for service. Many members begin serving at the chapter level and, through experience and commitment, may one day be called to serve at the Grand level.

The Order of the Eastern Star offers leadership opportunities at every stage — whether serving your hometown or supporting the entire state.

If you would like to learn more about leadership, fellowship, and becoming part of something meaningful, we would love to connect with you.

Stepping into the office of Worthy Matron in the Order of the Eastern Star is more than accepting a title — it is embracing a year of leadership, service, and personal growth.

The Worthy Matron serves as the presiding officer of a local chapter, guiding meetings with dignity and purpose while setting the tone for the year ahead. She works closely with the Worthy Patron and appointed officers to ensure that the chapter operates smoothly, supports charitable causes, and strengthens the bonds of sisterhood and brotherhood within the community.

At Sunshine Chapter #98 in St. Charles, Minnesota, the office of Worthy Matron represents:

✨ Leadership Development – Learning how to run meetings, manage committees, delegate responsibilities, and inspire others.
✨ Public Speaking Confidence – Leading ritual work and addressing members builds poise and communication skills.
✨ Organizational Skills – Planning events, coordinating charitable efforts, and keeping the chapter on track throughout the year.
✨ Mentorship & Team Building – Encouraging officers and members to grow, step forward, and discover their own potential.
✨ Service with Purpose – Leading projects that benefit our local community and charitable organizations.

One of the beautiful aspects of the Order of the Eastern Star is that it provides structured opportunities for women to develop real-world leadership skills in a supportive and encouraging environment. The lessons learned as Worthy Matron — accountability, preparation, diplomacy, compassion, and organization — carry far beyond the chapter room and into careers, families, churches, and the broader community.

Leadership in OES is not about authority. It’s about service. It’s about setting an example. It’s about helping others shine.

If you are looking for a place to grow, lead, and make a difference right here in St. Charles, we would love to connect with you.

Strong communities don’t just happen — they are built by people who care. 💛

That’s exactly what the Order of the Eastern Star has been doing for generations.

Here in St. Charles, Sunshine Chapter #98 Order of the Eastern Star is proud to be part of that tradition. OES brings together women and men who believe in strengthening families, supporting local charities, encouraging moral values, and building lasting friendships.

✨ Why is OES good for a community?
• We support local causes and charitable efforts.
• We promote leadership, service, and personal growth.
• We create a welcoming space where members build lifelong friendships.
• We encourage kindness, integrity, and compassion in everyday life.

In a world where people often feel disconnected, OES provides a place to belong. It’s a partnership of women and men working side-by-side, united by shared values and a desire to make a positive difference. Our members come from all walks of life, but we are connected by service, fellowship, and a commitment to uplifting one another.

🎓🐾 Extern Spotlight! 🐾🎓

We host many students of all ages here at our clinic, but we’re excited to give a special shout-out to our recent extern from the University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine, Allison Bronk!🩺

During their final year of Vet School, students spend lots of time learning in a medical teaching hospital, but they also get the chance to head out into the real world through externships. These usually last about two weeks, which these experiences help students explore special interests or dive into the day to day life of general practice.

Having an extern like Ally is one of the most rewarding parts of what we do. Teaching and mentoring the next generation of Veterinarians is truly special to us and we learn just as much from them as they do from us! 💙

We have to say… our staff absolutely loved having Ally here! She fit right in, jumped in with enthusiasm, asked great questions, and brought such a positive energy to the clinic.

Thank you, Ally, for spending time with us! We wish you all the best as you continue your Veterinary journey. The profession is lucky to have you! 🐶🐱✨
