👟 Hope4Veterans Community Shoe Drive 👟

June 1 – August 1 2026

People often ask us, "How can we help Hope4Veterans?"

Here is a simple way for your church, business, civic group, school, neighborhood, or organization to make a meaningful impact while supporting military women, veterans, and military families in our community.

🎯 Our Goal

We are collecting 1,000–2,500 pairs of gently used shoes of all types!

✔️ Dress shoes
✔️ Children's shoes
✔️ Men's and Women's shoes

Every pair helps support Hope4Veterans programs that honor, empower, and connect military women and their families.

👟 How It Works
Collect gently used shoes from your family, friends, congregation, employees, customers, or community members.
We will sort and package shoes in clear bags of approximately 25 pairs per bag.
Our community goal is to collect 1,000–2,500 pairs of shoes by August 1.

The annual St. Augustine Memorial Day ceremony at the St. Augustine National Cemetery will feature Florida Lieutenant Governor Jay Collins as the keynote speaker, followed by a solemn bell salute, a rifle salute, and wreath layings to honor local fallen veterans.

The event will also include the massing of colors, patriotic music, and a roll call of local service members who died in the past year.

Parking: Available in front of and behind the St. Francis Barracks
Requirements: Guests are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs and water.

Today, April 9, 2026, is National Former Prisoner of War Recognition Day. This observance honors the courageous men and women who endured captivity as prisoners of war, commemorating the date of the 1942 Bataan surrender. It is distinct from National POW/MIA Recognition Day, which is observed on the third Friday of September.

Today, on Gold Star Spouses Day, we honor the husbands and wives of our fallen service members. Their courage, resilience, and sacrifice for our nation will never be forgotten.

As we also celebrate Easter Sunday, we pray for comfort, hope, and peace for all Gold Star families and for our entire military community.

From all of us at VFW Post 2391 and the VFW Auxiliary in St. Augustine – you are not forgotten.
