Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 1084, is located in St. Johns County, in Northeast Florida. Johns County is one of the fastest growing communities in Florida; with a population of over 190,000 people, it is estimated that over 20,000 veterans are living here. There are more Vietnam-era veterans than any other wartime category in Florida with more than 498,000. Florida is the mo

st veteran-friendly state in the nation. If you are a veteran, thank you for your service. If you are the spouse or family member of a veteran, a special thank you for your dedicated support. Chapter 1084 is a new chapter in the state of Florida. Chartered in August 2013. Since then, our chapter has provided assistance to area food programs and has become an active partner in veteran programs throughout our county. An important part of or goal is to be involved with our local schools to assist our future generations with the knowledge and understanding of our Country and its involvement in the Vietnam War.,

For too many years we have been portrayed as drug addicts and mal-adjusted individuals in society. We were rejected by our peers, and fellow veterans of prior wars when we came home. But the majority of us succeeded, had families, good jobs, and became productive Americans. We became private patriots, proud of our service to our country but not welcomed as an American hero, like our fathers. Now that we have retired or started a second career we must make sure that this never happens to another generation. It is our duty to lead and direct them on a proud path when they return. To assist them in receiving what they deserve from our government and aid them to get back into the mainstream of society both at home and the workplace. It is also important that we aid our fellow brothers and sisters who are not as fortunate as we. We are called to visit the hospitalized and help the needy. We must also serve the communities in St. Johns County through our deeds and gestures. It is important to educate the young people of our sacrifices as the last generation of soldiers drawn from the general population via the draft. So remember, if you see a Vietnam Veteran or era Veteran, or know one, ask them if they are a member of Vietnam Veterans of America, if not ask them to join. Always carry two applications with you and hand them out at the Medical Center, Outpatient Clinic and Vet Center when you have an appointment. Don’t be bashful. Remember whenever you recruit a new member to VVA; your help strengthen our political might in Washington. If each of us in the chapter signed up JUST one new member this year, we can double our membership. We have a big year ahead of us, but by working together I feel that our membership is up to the task.
